Commercial Union Pushes Street Work Reform

In a Friday meeting the Commercial Union proposed street care reform with a committee to urge council action for a competent street supervisor. Delegates to the Cannon Falls convention were named, and two days police were discussed along with sprinkling costs. A separate note mentions a sled gauge tax break bill and a bond refund for Jos Bobleter.

Il Trovatore Delights City Audiences At Turner Theatre

The Gordon-Shay Grand Opera Co presented Verdi’s Il Trovatore to a large audience last night. Miss Shay was absent due to illness. Miss Helen Noldi stepped in delivering a luminous performance. Strong singing by Mr Stevens and Mr Fredericks, a well trained chorus, solid settings, and notable attendance from Sleepy Eye and Springfield marked the show.

Inspection of State Troops Set for April to May

Adjutant General E D Libby fixed dates for the national guard property inspection. Maj William Gerlach, recently nominated to the secretary of war post, will likely lead the inspection starting April 13 and running daily to May 7, with Co A in this city scheduled for April 1. The process will assess equipment and general state of the units, graded per the inspector's standards. Maj Gerlach, a retired army officer, is expected to conduct a rigorous inspection with full uniforms and gear present.
