City Council Purchases Oiling Apparatus and Funds Cemetery Building

New Ulm council approves oiling apparatus with 20000 gallons of oil led to Studebaker at 517 dollars and Standard Oil at 6.36 cents per gallon. A cemetery building contract goes to John G. Gronau at 2608 dollars with locally produced brick. Other actions include legal damages claim, city audit contract, and three building permits.

Expert to Lecture on Commercial Credits

R. Parker of the Credit Rating Association of Minneapolis will address the Commercial Club room next Friday on Commercial Credits. The talk aims to inform all businessmen about credit extension practices and will include a demonstration of standard blanks used by the Minneapolis association. Rounds Out 75 Years Of Active Life

Captain Frank Burg reached seventy five years last Friday at Turner Hall after attending the Bunge lecture. A New Ulm figure since 1880s he built Burg’s Blizzard cigar fame and led Burg's Battery as organizer commander and longtime sponsor. He still engages in city state and national affairs and friends hope he stays many years.

Alder man Mueller declines re election to council

Alder man Mueller of the second ward announced he will not seek re election to the city council. He cited business duties as preventing proper service and chose not to pursue either option. Mueller is completing the term of Christ Ruemke who died in office. Rumors about F H Retzlaff filing were denied. Christ Filzen has begun circulating a petition for councillor in the third ward with others considering entering.

Maskers Make Merry At Turner Hall In New Ulm

More than a hundred masks and several hundred spectators attended the New Ulm Carnverein prize masquerade at Turner Hall last Tuesday closing the festive season before abstinence. Prince Carnival and the royal couple Alfred Pullmann and Lou Schramm led the land march opening the frolic. judges awarded best group Palm Beach Girls and Boys and other prizes to masks and couples.

Springfield Primary Reflects Apathy In Quiet Voter Turnout

In New Ulm and surrounding areas only a fraction of eligible voters cast ballots for the presidential preference primary. Wets carried Springfield by more than two to one while other towns reported modest totals with several wards showing minimal activity. Local officials were elected in Cottonwood Courtland Milford and Courtland townships with modest levies for roads and general funds. Gebhard and ex Governor Eberhart drew strong support in city and county returns.

Priceless Photo Collection Displayed At Lecture

Fred W. Johnson presented his autographed photographs of famous men and women at Congregational church. The two hour talk traced world history through recognizable portraits, from Minnesota editors to national leaders, artists and writers. The collection began in the New Ulm Review office twenty five years ago and grows as new luminaries appear.

Minnesota Turnbezirk marks fiftieth session in New Ulm

The fiftieth annual session of the Minnesota Turnbezirk concluded at Turner Hall with New Ulm named as next year’s headquarters. Delegates from St Anthony Minneapolis St Paul Vorort and New Ulm attended as plans were laid for an embargo on arms exports, a jubilee celebration, and a midsummer athletic contest in a smaller city.
