Chautauqua Man to Lead Sleepy Eye Band

Charles E. Keller will direct the Sleepy Eye Band with 25 musicians enrolled and more to join. The effort aims to surpass any northwest band, with summer concerts planned each Saturday on Main street. Keller, a noted Chau tauqua Circuit director, brings strong musical credentials.

Queer sparks in wiring at Motor Inn alarm

Reported electrical disturbances shut down a Sunday night into Monday morning near the Motor Inn and a nearby residence on Minnesota Street. Fire crews found no blaze after investigating blown fuse blocks and a blackened ceiling rosette. Electricians warned of high voltage and worn wires, urging owners to inspect and repair weak points.

Many Bidders For City Work On Sewer Project

Fourteen firms bid on the new city construction work opened by the city council last week. Bids were often far below estimates, with the sewer project expected to employ about forty men after frost ends. Rahr & Pratt of Pipestone bid $28,569 for the sewer work, below the $38,000 engineer’s estimate, while Feven Construction Co. won the water main job at $5,818.20. The project covers sixteen blocks of sewers and several water mains between Eighth and Twelfth South on Minnesota, with work to start soon.

Teachers Wage Cuts Weighed by New Ulm Board

Monday night the New Ulm Board of Education discussed cutting teachers salaries for 1922 23 with no final action. Supt Gloor was re elected at the same pay, and a special meeting will set the salary basis. The Minnesota School Board Association called for broad cuts statewide, while state education commissioner McConnell urged economies other than teacher pay reductions.

Court convened to dispose of December term cases and heard final engineer’s report on Judicial Ditch No. 7 showing completion and payment due. Furs Taken From Produce House Burglary Case

John Affolder and John Wurm were implicated in a February burglary at the Stuebe Brothers Commission house. About 150 muskrat pelts and 16 mink pelts valued around 370 dollars were stolen. Wurm was pursued to St Paul then to Ramsey County custody. Affolder confessed involvement while Wurm fled toward Echo then Winthrop before arrest.
