New Civic Body Planned For City In Unified Drive

A New Ulm movement formed Sunday to build a Civic and Rural Association aimed at bettering the city and surrounding farms. The plan includes inclusive membership across farming, labor, business and professional groups, with a sliding dues scale and equal board representation. The objective is to foster material, physical and intellectual welfare, resolve public disputes, aid farmers and workers in securing homes, and beautify and improve the community.

Pilot H W Joern Home From Front In World War I

Pilot Harry W Joern son of Mr and Mrs Wm Joern Nicollet Minnesota returned home after serving as first lieutenant in the American Air Service. He enlisted in 1917 and trained at Fort Snelling Issoudun and Chateauroux before serving in the St Mihiel sector and the Forest of Argonne. He arrived in New York February 19 and was discharged at Garden City Long Island. A reception was held in Nicollet Tuesday evening.

Train wreck kills stockman on M and St. L line

A fatal wreck Friday morning between Hamburg and Norwood on the M and St. L line during a heavy snowstorm left Casper Mort of Boyd Minnesota dead and ten injured. The stock train split into two sections after becoming snow bound, causing a crash that crushed a caboose and damaged the passenger coach. Several injured were taken to Minneapolis hospitals, with early aid from Young America doctors and a relief train from Norwood. Traffic on the line was halted most of the day.
