New Ulm School Board Names Arnold Gloor Superintendent

The New Ulm board of education elected Arnold Gloor of Long Prairie as the new superintendent after H C Hess’s 10 years in the role. Hess resigns formally. Gloor’s salary set at 9600 for a year with a unanimous ballot after initial opposition. Physical Training director Prof. Herman Hein appointed at 1500 annual, and R L Henry named high school principal at 2000 yearly.

Editorial meeting forms Minnesota People's Press Association

At a February 20-21 St Paul gathering of progressive editors, the group decided to organize the People's Press Association of Minnesota. Temporary officers were elected: President A B Kinney Stillwater, Vice President Wm English Red Wing, Secretary-Treasurer I M Kalnes Alexandria. Plans aim to improve the Northwestern Service Bureau for up-to-the-minute news for members.

Birthday Party Honors Turner Ladies' Aid Members

Six members of the Turner Ladies' Aid were guests of honor at the monthly birthday party at Turner Hall on Thursday afternoon. About 100 ladies attended the program with songs, readings, a vocal solo, patriotic pieces, a comic reading, and a luncheon to conclude the event.

Laymen's Convention in Mankato District Set at Bethel Church

The lay convention of the Mankato district of the Evangelical Association will convene at Bethel church in this city on Thursday and Friday next week. Sessions occur Thursday afternoon and evening and Friday forenoon. The program will be announced in the Review next week.

Vogel Wins District Declamatory Contest at Mankato

Willard Vogel of New Ulm High School won first place in the district declamatory contest at Mankato on Saturday and will join two other district representatives at the state meet in Minneapolis in late March. Ronald Sutherland and Raymond Nelson took second and third. Brown County will be well represented at the state meet with two entrants from the area.

Relief efforts aid central Europe victims with Minnesota support

The German Catholic societies of Minnesota contributed 39039.70 to relief for sufferers of the English blockade in Central Europe, per the Vereine-Bote bulletin. Miss Marie Berger stayed with her brother in law and sister at Nicollet last week.

Social gathering planned by Commercial Club members after Easter

Commercial Club members met to approve a large social event after Easter with an elaborate banquet plan, speeches and music. They urged ladies’ participation, while discussing river crossing and bridge improvements estimated at 130000 to 150000 dollars funded by state and federal aid. A start on the project was proposed this year with completion in 1921, plus traffic safety notes and repainting road signs near 12th Street crossing.

Members of the Nonpartisan League from Brown and Redwood counties met at Sanborn and endorsed Edward C. Stahn of Springfield for at large representative, with Louis Spelbrink of Milford and John Hines of Delhi named for Browns and Redwood counties. Spelbrink is current representative. The Sanborn gathering planned thorough campaign organization. Also note Sleepy Eye losing H J Schubert Cigar Co to New Ulm by March 1 due to labor shortages. Schubert and wife regarded highly, city loses a local employer.

Dakota Freie Presse Moves to New Ulm

The Dakota Freie Presse under W. Sallet will publish from New Ulm beginning this week. The paper, long published in Aberdeen and Yankton, serves German Russian communities with national and regional news and a wide circulation. Conrad Kornmann will join Sallet, offices are above Brown County Bank, printing by United Press & Publishing Co.

Holy Trinity Parish Reports Jubilee Year Finances

The Holy Trinity Catholic parish published its Jubilee year financial statement noting assets of 30 288 97 with 25 000 in certificates of deposit and 5 288 97 cash. Receipts totaled 24 551 27 but expenditures rose to 24 919 21 including pastor and teacher salaries and debt service.

Residence moved across country eight miles in bold feat

Former buttermaker's house at St. George relocated to Klosaner, a distance of eight miles, with 16 horses guiding a 32 foot skid supported move. Ditches cleared, rests taken, three hours on the road, building 16 by 28 feet, intact aside from minor plaster cracks. House now rented at the new site.

The Farmers' Co-Operative Dairy Association stockholders plan their annual meeting at the new creamery hall tomorrow afternoon. The event was moved from February due to a public gathering ban during the influenza epidemic.

New Bank Cashier Appointed at Essig State Bank

F E Rolloff has been named cashier of the Essig State Bank and took up duties Monday morning. He comes from six months as a bookkeeper at the State Bank of Starkweather North Carolina and resigned February 1. Ed Geisler, the prior cashier, resigned citing health reasons and plans to return to door work. Alexander Schroeder returned to his charter at Sleepy Eye last Wednesday.

New Process Tire Het Reading Machines Installed

John A. Willahrt, proprietor of New Ulm Tire and Repair Co., installed three Zwebell New Process Tire reading machines at his South Minnesota Street plant. The upgrade will enable handling about 30 more tires daily. The new process reportedly restores tires to like new condition, improving casing endurance and performance.
