Navigation prospects boost Minnesota river survey plan
A Washington telegraph from Congressman Tawney to Chas A Johnson confirms the Board of Engineers will recommend a Minnesota river survey for navigation, power and drainage. Sen Poehler and landowners back the plan as engineers push to clear obstructions, reopen 165 to 220 miles toward the Mississippi. Captain Morton reports the lower river already shows deep water and the river’s channel work will begin, clearing snags and protecting banks.
