Methodist Church Adopts English Services and Pastor Change
The Methodist church board votes to request the bishop to reappoint Dr. C Hohn for another year. All services and Sunday School to be in English starting July, with evening services and July August changes. Meadow Valley Improves Public Landing With Volunteers
Last Sunday 50 to 60 Meadow Valley residents cleaned the Public Landing under a self formed committee led by John Karl August Beyer Christ Lindmeyer Frank Lindmeyer Robert Bartl Chas Lindmeyer Joseph Kirsch and John Wild. They cleared underbrush gathered rocks and called the site a potential public park with plans for a 24th of July celebration and landscape work to follow with community support urged. A league and equity picnic will be held next Sunday at L W Samuelson farm with speakers Magnus Johnson and J A Currie plus Red Cross sale and Bernadette band music followed by a dance inviting New Ulm citizens and nearby farmers.

An army of over a thousand volunteers gathered for the Hagle Mill second annual picnic at Herman's Heights, marching from the mill to Minnesota Street and Center Street. Former New Ulm Boy Killed in Action
Dr G Fischer of Minneapolis received word from the War Department that his son Corporal Robert Mc Caughin Fischer was killed on the Chateau Thierry battlefield during a gallant attack. He was born in New Ulm October 1397 and was 21. He served in the Maine Corps 5th Regiment, enlisted in 1917, and had been in France over six months. His mother died young, he was raised by his aunt Miss Minna Fischer, and his brothers Richard Mario are in training or visiting.

New Freight Rates Take Effect Nationwide Increase
New freight rates under government control raise class and commodity charges by 25 percent starting June 25, with heavy commodities such as coal iron ore and cement carrying specific added amounts.
