Minneapolitan Teutonia Club Visits Columbia Bowling

The Teutonia Bowling Club of Minneapolis visited Columbia Sunday for a 4 “Stag Picnic” at the Fish Pond hosted by the Columbia Bowling Club. Prize winners included Fat man Louis Buenger and Lean man W C Haubrich. Emperor High Ball Col Jos Bobleter won judged costume. Remarks praised C L Roos for presenting the prize and entertaining the gathering.

District Court opens with grand jury sworn in case mix

Opening of the District Court swore in Jacob Duncan as foreman. Of 21 civil calendar cases, six settled or continued, four set for law questions, rest for jury trial. Motion argued to dismiss the Werner Boesch probate appeal for lack of jurisdiction. Sleepy Eye wheat case mentioned in jury charge. Eden township road cases reversed by consent. Herbert Spencer noted with a leading 100 cigar.

Superintendent Critchett presents a term end report with 712 total students, age groups 5–8, 8–16, 16–21, and two over 21. 195 days taught, 629 average daily attendance, term attendances 527, 536, 524. Staff average 68 months experience, 16 teachers with varied tenure. 108,197 total attendance days, 145 days per pupil. Library 1250 volumes, 4673 books issued. High school totals 62 pupils with counts in Latin, algebra, Greek, German, and other subjects. District valuation $984,184, tax rate 12.8 mills, Sleepy Hye 42 mills, Redwood Falls 34 mills.

Democratic County Convention Elects State Delegates

The county Democratic convention held Thursday afternoon in this city elected delegates to the state convention in Minneapolis. J. J. Green of New Ulm was chosen chairman, with E. P. Schmitz as secretary. Delegates from New Ulm, Sleepy Eye, Springfield, Milford, Home, Mulligan, Sigel, Stark and other towns were named, and Max Reinhart, Chas. Stengel, J. J. Green, and others were selected as state convention delegates. J. J. Green was also named county member of the state central committee. The county central committee includes several named members from New Ulm, Sleepy Eye, Springfield, Milford, and Home.
