I’m Alive at the Old Man’s Burying Song
ASA P. BROOKS recalls the funeral of an older rival, noting the rival’s cleverness, marbles and elections won, and a final hymn at the burial. He jokes about being alive and healthy, despite the rival’s death, and reflects on their long feud and his own future. The recollection is framed as a humorous, self aware memory from a church setting.
