An elderly former Russian general recounts a bribery anecdote from Alexander II’s reign. A widow sought a ministry post for her son, the czar advised supplying £1000 to the minister via a loan, and the minister secured the appointment that very day, illustrating pervasive official corruption. The anecdote ends with the emperor noting a further point in his report.
The remains near Athens show a 700 year work of the great Zeus temple once standing about 150 yards from the Acropolis. Legend says Dukalion, the Greek Noah, founded its foundation at this spot and a reported opening marks where the flood receded.
