Turner Hall announces gymnastic schedules for youth and adults. Boys 11 and under meet Mondays and Thursdays. boys 10 to 14 on Mondays and Thursdays. girls 6 to 11 on Thursdays and Fridays. girls 11 to 15 on Thursdays and Fridays. older girls 15 plus on Wednesdays and Saturdays. ladies and women on Thursdays. junior boys 14 to 17 on Mondays and Fridays. men 17 and over on Tuesdays and Fridays.
Hon John W Olsen, Supt of Public Instruction, presents diplomas to six graduates in a ceremony held in the assembly room. The program featured a salutatory on college settlements, a piano duet, orations on top achievements, a class history, a prophecy in verse, and a valedictory on the value of practical education. The event marks the first graduation from the new high school building with a crowd of supporters and flowers for each graduate.
Mrs Harriet Schmidt and her sister Mise Carrie Fnedmano start the Art Studio after purchasing Emil E Seiter’s photograph gallery. Schmidt recently studied in St Paul and aims to satisfy exacting patrons with competent, painstaking service. The piece notes a separate figure: 36,000,000 in cavalry horses and males furnished by the West for the Interoer war.
The Great Turnfest brings Turners from across Minnesota and neighboring states to New Ulm on Saturday and Sunday June 23. The 234th gymnastic tournament of the Minnesota district of the North American Gymnastic Union will flood the city with hundreds of visitors. Excursion trains and special arrangements aim to handle large crowds. Programs include apparatus exercises, field sports, competitive singing, German theatre, a grand street parade, and a mass calisthenics display culminating in prize awards.
The city celebrates with a full day of sport and evening entertainment on the Fourth. A grand parade leads to German Park where Rev Father Sandmeyer and Hon Julius A Coller will speak in German and English respectively. Thousands are expected for bands, floats, a major baseball game, and extensive advertising to follow. Sleepy Eye and Springfield will have smaller celebrations.
