County convention in Turner Hall at 4:30 p m to elect delegates for the state convention in Duluth on the 12th. Most expect an uninstructed delegation favoring Somerville or Vogel, with turnout possibly lower than past years due to apathy across Brown County.
The Swedish Y M C A chorus of 65 voices will tour America with 24 concerts this summer including St Peter in Minnesota. The group, known for its European renown, draws singers from various professions and Swedish universities, with four concerts slated for Minnesota cities.
The Graceville Commercial Club secures a flax straw mill to process 5000 tons yearly, employing 10 workers. The company offers 2.50 dollars per ton minimum, with site lease for five years and water incentives. A representative will choose a site and install machinery to start this fall, benefiting the town and surrounding area.
The Board of Directors held an all night meeting at the college with Rev Aug Schroeder chairing pro tem. Pres J Schaller presented the annual report noting 95 students attendance and requests for historical maps and a $50 increase for the library to $100 per year. A housekeeping plan for Marie Schroeder was approved and a committee on rules reported for the next meeting.
Born Wednesday May 30 1906 to Mr and Mrs Guo Polta a son. Mecklenberg Milford welcomed a daughter May 30 1906 to Mr and Mrs Daniel Mecklenberg. Rewitzer May 31 1906 brought a son to Mr and Mrs Wenzel Rewitzer. Prof J Schaller preached in St Paul on Sunday.
Dr George E James of State University will deliver the commencement address for City High School. The twelve member class includes Maud Hagberg valedictorian and Bertha Ruemke salutatorian. The program features essays verses class history and diplomas amidst reflections on education and youth.
Mrs. Anna Jenson wife of Andrew Jenson died at her Nicollet county home near Brighton Monday morning from a complication of diseases aggravated by a tumor. Her remains rest in the local cemetery and funeral services will be at 10 o'clock at the house conducted by Prof. Frich Lutheran minister of St. Paul. She was born in Hadeland Norway on Nov 10 1846 and came to America in 1862 with her parents who settled in Green County Wisconsin and later moved to Granby township Nicollet county. She married Andrew Jensen in 1870 in St Peter and leaves husband and two living children Albert and Ings, two others having died.
Trouble in Redwood county telephone lines as small stockholders face buy or sell pressure from big holders. A.C. Miller to leave as secretary July 1 to join a telephone manufacturer. June 20 meeting expected to decide a bid to reorganize the company on a one vote per share basis or force buyouts, with potential rent increases and dividend concerns.
City council met last night and laid over the saloon closing petition. The Franklin street grading question saw no action for now. Scholl Brewing Co gave twelve feet of street to meet laws. Sewer contractor Lovell & Co extended to July 1. Police appointees Klausen Tuuer Weissenborn for two years. Treasury described as in excellent shape.
