Benson Auto Tour Delights New Ulm Crowd

The Benson Automobile Club tour ended in New Ulm with 49 cars and 190 people, ideal weather, a band concert at Turner Hall, and open hospitality. VIPs from Benson, Sleepy Eye, and nearby towns joined locals for a 108.9 mile route via Willmar Olivia Franklin and Fort Ridgely, with dinners, hotels, and a warm welcome from New Ulm residents.

Insane Murderer Escapes From St Peter State Hospital

Bjorn Ostby aged about 20 escapes from the criminal ward at the State Hospital for the Insane in St Peter by lowering himself from a second story window using sheet strips. He wore a blue suit, brown felt hat, and a white shirt marked B Ostby. Three accomplices were deterred by attendant Ecklund during the escape plan amid dense woods and ravines. Police seek Ostby as authorities question how such a security breach occurred at the recently built institution and vow to recapture him.

Last of the Park Concerts Opens Final Season End

The week’s park concert drew a record crowd with crowds from Courtland Fairfield and nearby towns. Next Sunday concludes the series with a strong program headlined by Sousa and others. Automobiles crowded the streets as locals and visitors gathered for the final show.

Socialists nominate Dr J R Hollister for Congress in district meeting

Delalist public ownership Socialists of the Second congressional district held a convention in Masketo on Sunday to nominate Dr J R Hollister of Sleepy Eye for Congress. B F Snook chaired, J L Kiefer was secretary, and Hollister urged party support as Marshner praised public ownership of railroads and telegraphs.

Public Dumping Grounds Keeper Convicted

Gustav Schroeder, keeper of the public dumping grounds, was tried last Monday in Justice Henningeen's Court and charged with unlawfully discharging firearms within city limits. Henry Moll Jr. testified. Schroeder admitted guilt, was fined 810.00 and 64.95 costs paid. Reports say he has used a revolver threateningly and his son has a rifle, raising safety concerns about his police-like powers and urging a thorough investigation into his fitness to carry any weapon.

Two Aeroplane Flights for Celebration

Executive committee reports busy meeting with Ladies Auxiliary listing officers and plans to resist the celebration. Funds raised approach $1900 with donations welcomed. Major Randall and Col. Taylor invited. entertainment for DAR and Ft Spelling delegation arranged. Curtiss Aeroplane Co. contracted for two flights at $600. Friday parade, car displays, concerts, fireworks planned.

Dempsey Enters County Attorney Race in New Ulm

W H Dempsey of Samson Dempsey Mueller enters the Democratic bid for County Attorney. He filed Thursday after Aug G Erickson opted not to run, and Dempsey, a University of Minnesota graduate class of 1908, arrived in New Ulm three years ago with likely no primary opposition.
