Grain inspection for New Ulm area to open post August 14
Chief Grain Inspector Eva from the railroad and warehouse commission will open a grain inspection facility in New Ulm backed by local millers who will cover about 125 dollars monthly. The service, which costs 20 cents a car, is expected to become self supporting due to the mills shipping over 600 cars of grain monthly. Also, elevator operators may use the facility.

Wattersons Dark Horse and Bryan's Candidacy Debate
Henry Watterson weighs the so called dark horse in the 1908 race noting the Courier Journal did not name any presidential candidate. The piece analyzes Bryan's stance, party unity risks, and potential nominees Gov Folk of Missouri and Gov Johnson of Minnesota. It cites voter dynamics, independents, and regional support while deflating speculative speculation about a Bryan backed ticket. The column also mentions local notices of births and civic topics and a civil service exam date in St Paul.
