Henle Mueller Zschunke Chosen For School Board

Three candidates Employed as incumbents win re election in New Ulm after a school election that drew 387 ballots. Henle leads with 308 votes, Mueller 267, and Zschunke 241, while Krook, Olson, and Meile trailed. A pre election sticker controversy saw two names deny candidacy, urging votes for the present board.

Return From North Party Reports Bemidji Trip

Daniel Mecklenburg of Essig Fred Meyer Wm Meyer and Joseph Glaser journeyed from the city to Bemidji and vicinity leaving July 5. They traveled over 700 miles and found crops failing due to heat with potatoes as the only thriving crop though smaller. They observed blossoming potatoes across large acreages in Brown County.

Poultry Association Elects Officers At Annual Meeting

Brown County Poultry Association met in Sleepy Eye with seventeen members present and attendees from out of town. Officers elected for the year: Henry Romberg president, Wm. A. Lindemann vice president, Henry Leitschuh secretary treasurer. Next annual poultry show planned for Sleepy Eye in winter. Executive committee named Sieg, Friton, Neudecker. Judgment method chosen for the show. Financial report shows a $9.43 treasury deficit vs last year's $6.41 surplus. Receipts itemized: bank balance 6.41, entry fees 291.50, state aid 400.00, New Ulm Commercial Club aid, coop rents 400, feed, advertising 36.17, premiums 26.26, armory rent and labor 24.82, etc.

Woodmen Picnic Planned for August 14 at Hermann's Heights

A joint Woodmen meeting of New Ulma and Sleepy Eye camps decided to hold the annual picnic at Hermann's Heights in Sleepy Eye on Sunday August 14. With six Brown County camps, a record turnout is hoped for if weather cooperates. Royal Neighbors will provide coffee. picnickers to bring basket dinners. Committees were named to arrange the event.

Brown County Tax Levy Drops To 185000

County commissioners reduced the 1921 tax levy from 225000 to 185000 despite fears roads in the Minnesota Trunk Highway System could suffer. The plan allocates 75000 to County Revenue, 86000 to Road and Bridge, 18000 to Poor, and 7000 to Refunding. Previous levy allocations totaled 65000 for Revenue, 125000 for Road and Bridge, and 36000 for Poor.

Missing Buick Theft Stuns Hopkins Plumber’s Mobile

The five passenger Model 45-D Buick owned by S K Strong of Hopkins Minnesota, a Kellogg Mackay Co traveling salesman, was stolen from the Grand Hotel rear garage in the early hours. Police, sheriff and witnesses traced tracks to an alley, with Mr Strong returning home Wednesday after discovering the loss. The getaway occurred between 1 30 and 2 o clock as a single occupant drove north on German street.

Soldiers' Bodies Laid To Rest In World War I Tribute

The community honored two local World War I soldiers Arthur J Schnobrich and Evan Evans with full military rites. Arthur died in France 1918 of pneumonia and was buried in Sleepy Eye after service in New Ulm with a firing squad. Evan, 18, was killed in the Meuse-Argonne offensive, later honored by the local American Legion chapters.

Windstorms Cause Electric Damage Across Town

Heavy windstorms struck the area Wednesday evening and Saturday afternoon. Wires and trees were damaged. two light poles near the Courtland bridge were blown down requiring a temporary plant shutdown. Superintendent Herbert Huevelmann and crew repaired the outages quickly. Saturday hail damaged crops near Redwood Falls. corn fields stripped and some standing grain ruined. no hail reported in New Ulm vicinity.

Sunday Park Concerts Return to Evening Schedule

Attendance for the first weekday concert by Hofmeister's Band at German Park was poor, barely a third of typical Sunday crowds. Townspeople cited work and farm duties as barriers, prompting a return to Sunday evening concerts. The seventh program of the season will be offered next Sunday night, July 24, with the same format as before.

Townley Appeal Denied by State Supreme Court

The State Supreme Court rejected a petition for re-argument by A. C. Townley and Joseph Gilbert, leaders linked to the National Nonpartisan League. They sought to reopen a case convicting them of conspiracy to violate the 1917 statute banning interference with enlistment. Gilbert remains jailed in Goodhue County after a separate conviction. New Ulm Locals Capture Southern Minnesota Meet Crown

The New Ulm ball club won seven straight games last week, defeating Austin New Richland and Young America to reach fourteen wins in seventeen games. They beat Young America 6 to 0 with Hamann on the mound holding the visitors to six hits as Bunn Guenther and Standard led offense.
