Clara Marka Hengy 22 of New Ulm, living in St Paul, was found dying along East river road Minneapolis after leaving with a man described as wearing a cap and dark suit. She died of a fractured skull at City hospital St Paul. Relatives identified her body. funeral held in New Ulm.

In Sleepy Eye on July 17 John Cutting ordered Ed Berkner jailed for contempt after Berkner resisted. Chief Ed McGowan and Officer Joe Schueller were attacked by Berkner supporters. McGowan drew a revolver to restore order. Berkner paid a $20 contempt fine and faces additional charges. Police plan warrants for others who joined the assault. Berkner, a land broker who owns the city’s only airplane, was among those involved.

In Sleepy Eye district court Judge Olsen sentenced William Pfeiffer to two concurrent terms not to exceed three years each for being an accessory after the fact in the Foster & Bertrand burglary and for criminally receiving stolen property the sentences to run consecutively. Co-defendants Raymond Brooks and Max Pfeiffer received seven years total for grand larceny in the first degree and burglary in the third degree.
