Minnesota Seed Company to Build Addition

The Minnesota Seed Company plans a three story with basement rear addition 60 by 85 feet, concrete and galvanised iron, for storage and seed corn. With a promising corn crop, the firm expects a large volume of business next season and will begin work promptly to be ready this fall.

Machine Gun Company for New Ulm ahead of Sparta encampment

Col A W Wright of the 20th Regt reports that New Ulm will receive a machine gun company if 46 men can be mustered in ten days. The unit seeks full equipment for participation in the Sparta encampment on August 6. There is one machine gun company per regiment and four guest companies. Action may be taken if New Ulm fails to organize in time.

Death of Sylvester A. George Struck by Lingering Illness

Captain Sylvester A. George, aged 74, long resident of Hanska Minnesota, died Thursday night after over a year of failing health. Born February 14 1838 in Gardiner Maine he served as First Lieutenant in the First Maine Regiment during the Civil War. He lived a charitable, devout life as a husband father and builder of his community ties, and his funeral was held at his home with a tribute from Rev Amanios E Norman of the Hanska Unitarian Church.

Longtime Sigel public servant remembered as “Grand Old Man” of courthouse

An obituary details the career of a Civil War veteran who served in the Army of the Potomac and later settled in Sigel. He rose to Captain, aided New Ulm relief efforts, held roles as Justice of the Peace, Assessor, Clerk of Court for eight years, and served as Court Commissioner for twenty six years. Survived by a wife Mia, daughter, seven grandchildren, a brother and sister in Providence R. I. He remained active in Democratic politics throughout his life.

Professor Bliefernicht to retire from D M L College

Local readers learn of Prof E R Bliefer of North Western College Watertown Wis taking the vacancy left by Dr F W A Notz at Northwestern college Milwaukee July 9 appointments include Rev Hermes Gisechen of Wauwatosa and Prof M Sprengling to Harvard. Bliefernicht’s departure will end years of service to the local institution and is mourned by faculty students and townspeople.

Ladies Auxiliary Formed For New Ulm Home Coming Week

A meeting of all ladies whose parents lived in New Ulm during and before the Indian Massacre is set for next Sunday at Turner Hall Club Rooms at two o clock. The aim is to organize a Ladies Auxiliary of the Junior Pioneers to assist the Celebration Committee. All eligible residents are invited. a Junior Pioneers committee will answer questions and help organize the Auxiliary.

Postmasters Meet Asiatant Convention in New Ulm

The fifth Incusl convention of the Minnesota Stats Association of Asslatent Postmasters will be held in New Ulm next Tuesday with headquarters at the Dakots House and sessions at Turner Hall Club Rooms. Mayor Dr. L A Fritsche will give the welcome, President Nelson will respond, Liesch will speak, and officers will be elected after discussions. A banquet at Turner Hall will conclude the visit, with about thirty assistant postmasters expected. A farm home was robbed during a Fourth of July picnic, an intruder stealing food and a suit of clothes.
