New Eagle Mills Lab Delivers Scientific Flour Testing

The Eagle Milling Company opens a four room chemical laboratory beside its mill to test all stages from whole wheat to finished flour. G H Schmidt, with four years at Minnesota and Chicago training, leads the lab assisted by Miss Gleason. An experimental mill and moisture testing setup reproduce digestion-like conditions to measure water content, protein, crude fiber, and other factors to ensure high quality bread.

Rural mail carriers get raise to 1200 dollars a year

Washington dispatch reports that rural routes covering 24 miles will earn 1200 dollars annually, with shorter routes on a graduated scale. In New Ulm seven carriers, only George Merkle loses out, while the others gain 25 to 100 dollars, marking a steady wage rise since Rural Free Delivery began about fifteen years ago.

Gypsies Steal Twenty Dollars From Wanda Bank

A band of gypsies invaded Wanda and stole twenty dollars in gold from the Wanda bank while the cashier was away. A girl was left in charge, gypsy women entered, tried to tell fortunes, and fled after locals intervened. pursuit followed five miles out before the band returned the stolen funds and escaped.

Horse Killed in Runaway Near Springfield

On Tuesday at noon near Springfield J J Hannah paused while cultivating corn to throw quack grass over a fence. The team frightened by a child approaching caused a brief runaway. A tree blocked the path and one horse struck it, breaking its neck and dying instantly. a nearby child narrowly escaped injury.

Extended auto tour from Minnesota to New York

Emil Metzinger and family with Mr and Mrs H Stammer of Mankato left Saturday July 3 for a six week auto trip to New York. Arno Weddendorf accompanies the party as driver and mechanic. The travelers planned the trip for some time awaiting better roads and expect to travel at a leisurely pace to see the country.

On Sunday and Monday New Ulm traffic was heavy with cars lining both sides of Minnesota Street. A dog was killed after darting in front of a vehicle and a motorcycle crash occurred Monday in front of the Dakota House. John Kilgus of Morgan was thrown but escaped with minor injuries. his motorcycle was lightly damaged.

Opening of The Ruby and Gem Theaters Draws Crowds

The Ruby theater reopened under new management with a grand opening at the Gem as a dance night drew a packed house. Mr Leen presented high class pictures and promises continued lively attractions to attract New Alma patrons. The Gem featured reels from The Black Box and The Master Key, pleasing a good natured crowd.

Thieves Enter North Broad Way Residence During Absence

Thieves entered the Albert Gag home through a cellar while the family was away at Lake City and Searles. They took clothing, an opal ring, and small change. Police believe burglars knew the family was away and moved quietly. Burnt matches and no electric light suggest they avoided attention.

June Weather in Town Ends With Varied Temperatures

June brought wide swings in temperature from 35 to 88 degrees with a light frost on the 9th and 27th. The mean reached 61 degrees while total precipitation totaled 6.27 inches, fewer than last year’s 8.56. Three days were clear, eight cloudy, and nineteen partly soupy.
