Missing farm hand Joseph Baar feared to be harmed

Joseph Baar a 38 to 40 year old farm hand disappeared Friday forenoon while shock­ing rye on the John J Guggisberg farm in Lafayette township He left without saying where he was bound and searchers scoured along the Minnesota river banks all day and into Monday The M and St L morning crew was asked to check Minneapolis as he may have returned to seek his old job as engine tender at the city yard Anyone with information should contact the New Ulm sheriff or Mr Guggisberg

Rain Cancels Park Concert With Rescheduled Hofmeister Band

Rain forced the Sunday park concert to be abandoned. Hofmeister's band will perform next Sunday evening July 16 at German Park, with the program reprinted for readers. Otto Koch of Bancroft, South Dakota, arrived for a several days visit with his mother on North Payne Street and other relatives before returning today.

County Farm Bureau Holds Summer Meeting in Sleepy Eye

Brown County Farm Bureau members convened at Sleepy Eye State Park last Tuesday. New articles of incorporation and amendments to the constitution and by laws were drafted approved and adopted with Frank Brown aiding. Officers elected to serve through December include President George Herkher Melzer Secretary Ed McGowan Sleepy Eye Treasurer John Faltis Sleepy Eye County Director Hetman Polkow Springfield Executive committee Arthur Zschetzsche James Peterson. Mr and Mrs John Hetlinger Jr Bancroft and John Hetlinger Sr visited the Hetlinger home on South Jefferson street and will return to Bancroft today.

Local school board race field unsettled but few challengers

In Bowtown the upcoming July 18 school election may lack strong opposition as three current board members seek re-election. Filing closed July 4 with only Henle Mueller and Zschunke submitting candidates. Dark horse plans are rumoured but details remain secret. Polls run 6 to 3 after 4 PM at the high school auditorium.

Cobden Youth Drowns at Mankato River Incident

Louis Bloemke Jr. a Cobden resident and Mankato Commercial College student, drowned in the Minnesota river near North Mankato while swimming with companion Carl Krueger. The 19 year old did not know how to swim, was pulled underwater, and later died despite lung pumps. Funeral held at German Lutheran church. parents and eight siblings survive.

Arm Torn From Socket In 40 Foot Fall

Frank Lubitz of Gibbon sustained a severe injury while shingling a bath, falling from a 40 foot scaffold and tearing his left arm from the shoulder socket. An X ray after a week showed the bone in place and his condition improving. he is about 50 years old and progressing toward recovery.

Horses Cause Death Of Two Brothers In Farm Barn

Two 12 year old brothers, sons of Mr and Mrs Henry Phler, living on the John Wigley farm near Judson, died in a Mankato hospital after being kicked and trampled by horses in the barn. One boy was found tied near the barn after the accident.

Military Camp At Fort Snelling Aug Camp for Youths

Government to conduct a military camp at Fort Snelling this August for young men ages six to 95 who have no prior military, training, or government service. The course covers rudiments of training and health development under selected army officers. expenses paid including railroad fare home. Applications due by July 10. Revival Planned for Camp Dodge Reunion Event

Camp Dodge to be revived for a 38th Division reunion in Des Moines August 26 to 28. A tent city on the Iowa State Fair grounds will house up to 10,000 men with free government tents and quarters for 88th veterans, organized by Major H. Polk. It marks the first gathering at the old training grounds since the war, with delegates expected from many midwestern states.

Soldier's Body Arrives Friday Soldier's Body Arrives Friday

The remains of Alfred A. Mecklenburg of Essig, son of Mr and Mrs Daniel Mecklenburg, killed in France on November 11 1918, arrived in New Ulm from Hoboken New Jersey Friday afternoon. A special train carried the Northwest corpses to Chicago then Fort Snelling for distribution. Private Joseph Vailen Tour escorted the body to New Ulm. Mecklenburg had joined the Brown County contingent May 25 1918 from New Ulm to Camp Lewis Washington, later serving in San Diego and New York before sailing for France in August.

Sleepy Eye youth fined for purse theft on Cottonwood River

Felix Brust of Sleepy Eye recounted a theft at the Cottonwood river near Schell brewery where his $13 purse was stolen from a shoe while swimming. Gust Kraus 18 was fined 50 dollars and costs 86.06 total after confessing involvement. his brother 16 and Peter Prokoach 16 were released.
