Death's steady harvest claims Schmucker and Manderfeld

Joseph Schmucker, prominent New Ulm brewer and three term city council member, died suddenly at his home after liver and kidney trouble. Susanne Manderfeld, respected early settler, died aged 98, with funeral held in New Ulm after remans were moved from Hashaw. she was survived by four sons and four daughters.

Hospital Losses Prompt Public Aid in Mankato

Evangelical Hospital association of Mankato and Minnesota Mutual Fire Insurance Co. settled on 3900 for fire loss, leaving a net hospital loss over 2000. Public volunteers discussed aid, with subscriptions planned at about 1 per week for hospital use. Repairs proceed rapidly under contractor Schweppe of St James.

Ringdahl Named to State Board of Control by Governor

Hon. P. M. Ringdahl of Crookston receives the vacancy on the State Board of Control created by Judge Gould's death. The appointment, announced by Governor Johnson, is for the unexpired term ending April 7 with a view to a full six year term. Ringdahl, a former populist leader and granite businessman, arrived to assume duties with a $3,500 annual salary.

District judges debated as Ninth district eyed expansion

Senators Clague and Seward introduced bills to add a judge to the Ninth Judicial district by redrawing counties. Seward would detach Pipestone to Ninth. Clague would form a new Nineteenth from Lincoln Lyon Murray and Pipestone. A capital commission bill also appeared in the House.

Richard Geisinger Named Deputy Inspector in Brown County

State Oil Inspector McDermotton on Saturday announced fifty six deputies including Richard Geisinger of New Ulm as deputy inspector for Brown County He succeeds Geo Glotabach of Sleepy Eye Geisinger runs the Merchants Motel and once owned the Chicago House and Merchants Hotel as he faced opposition from county leaders after appealing to the governor for the post.

Fort Dodge Man Weds Whitney Show Girl in Hasty Pact

John A. Inman of Fort Dodge Iowa married Show Girl May Monte of Boston after a single meeting at a theater. He claims intoxication left him with no memory of signing, seeks to void the union declared null and void. Witnesses included troupe members and theater staff. The couple separated as Inman pursued divorce.

Former New Ulm Men Bankrupt Near Lamberton

A Lamberton report dated January 17 notes Deere & Webber Implement filed an involuntary bankruptcy petition against Doster & Fritsche, an established implement firm seven years in business. Liabilities approx 26000 with assets unlisted. J W Schmidt of Mankato named receiver. Doster and Fritsche are New Ulm natives with many local relatives.

New Agricultural School Proposed in Lincoln Lyon or Yellow Medicine

A bill by Senator Seward authorizes the regents of the state university to establish an experiment farm and a school of agriculture on 320 acres within Lincoln Lyon and Yellow Medicine counties. The bill provides 25000 dollars for setup and 10000 dollars for maintenance. Senator Clague introduces a Memorial Day desecration bill to prohibit sports near memorials and close saloons from 10am to 3pm.
