Teachers Examinations Set For February 5 7 1903
Examinations for state teaching certificates will be held in New Ulm Sleepy Eye and Springfield High School buildings on Thursday February 5 Friday 6 and Saturday 7 1903 with schedules for each grade and subject. Renewals renew certificates of 2d grade expiring March 1 1908 for teachers who meet minimum averages and have recent teaching and professional development records. Also included is a brief editorial note praising a Senate House resolution urging repeal of the coal tariff and asking Congress to act.

Death of Christoph Salkowske shocks Sleepy Eye community
Word came Wednesday morning that Christoph Salkowske died just before daybreak after a brief illness and a recent icy slip. He had suffered heart trouble for years but death was sudden. He fell ill Tuesday evening, a physician was called, and he died before the doctor arrived. He leaves a widow and two sisters in the United States, plus Masonic and civic affiliations. He served as treasurer of the board of education. Local tribute notes his energy and community service.

New Ulm Electric Light Co Cuts Rates After City Move
Stockholders met Monday night and agreed to match the city rate of 8 cents per 1000 watts and to meet all future car users so light benefits go to the user base. The county lighting contract negotiations influenced the cut, with the city offering county offices the same price and credit for an old meter. First Annual Meeting Of State Bank Of Hunska
The State Bank of Hunska held its first annual meeting Monday at the Broadway banking house. President Anton Ouren presided as J A Eckstein was named chair. Directors elected were A O Ouren Jos A Eckstein Nels Erickson N J Ouren Clement Halvorson Fred Pfaender and A O Amandson. The bank pledged to secure deposits of the Hanaka and Linden Creamery Association and approved a $10,000 bond to back county funds. Taxes for Linden Lake Havaks and Albin may be paid at this bank and ship tickets may be offered soon.
