Mrs. Maria Gay aged 81 died Saturday morning at her New Ulm home after a long life beginning in Bohemia. She came to this country in 1855, lived in Town and Cottonwood township, claimed land in 1856, faced Indian displacement, later moved to New Ulm in 1887, leaving four daughters and one son. Capt. Steinhauser conducted the funeral at the city cemetery.

New Ulm Fire Department Elects Officers for Year

The New Ulm Fire Department held its annual meeting last Monday electing officers for the ensuing year. President Wm. Koch, vice president Herman Nagel, secretary Alfred Schroeck, and treasurer Emil Wicherski were named. Company officers include Hook and Ladder foreman A. Schroeck and assistants, Hose Co No.1 foreman R. Brandt, Hose Co No.3 foreman Frank Palta, Engine Co foreman Chas. Stoll, Police Co captain Chas. Brust and lieutenant Albert Nicklaus. County Attorney Rinar Hordale returned from Hot Springs, Ark., Wednesday evening.
