W J Eckstein president of the local board of education resigns by letter to Clerk John Henle. Eckstein, active in education and music, declined to state reasons for his action. He was elected in 1919 and served as president after the reorganization. His friends regret the severance from the board.

Poultry Show Entries and Fees Announced for New Ulm
Entries must be received by January 18 at 9 p m. Exhibits open at 8 am show room. Delays in transit may excuse late arrivals. Secretary William A. Lindemann, New Ulm, Minn, handles forms and information. Poultry entry 40 cents per bird or 1.00 per pen. exhibition pen requires one male and four females. Turkeys ducks geese and bantams 40 cents each. Prizes blue red white and green for first through fourth. The American Poultry Association rules govern the show.

Poultry Show Gets $100 from Brown County Club
Brown County Poultry Association led a delegation to the New Ulm Commercial Club meeting to seek up to 100 dollars to aid the fourth annual Brown County poultry show at the New Ulm Armory from January 13 to 16. The club approved sending funds to the show and discussed flood control concerns near New Ulm, opposing a dam on the Minnesota River. Attorney Henry H. Flor was named counsel to oppose the Minnesota valley conservancy district if Brown County is not excluded. The club has about 250 dollars in flood control funds.

Rebuilding Barn on Schiller Farm Begins
A carpentry crew from Herman Koop & Son is erecting a large barn on the Joseph Schiller farm in Courtland township. The barn’s stone walls survived a recent early morning fire that destroyed the structure, the second such loss on the farm after a previous barn burned, reportedly struck by lightning years ago. The Schiller woods could supply timber for rebuilding, but he plans to reuse native lumber where possible.

The New Ulm Savings & Loan board declared a semi annual compound interest of three percent on all stock. Last year a similar rate was set for running stock while paid up stock received two and a half percent. Resigning Pastor Mayer Leaves Ey Friedens Church
Rev. G Mayer, longtime pastor of Ey Friedens church in New Ulm, offered his resignation during New Year services. The annual congregation meeting will consider the move. Mayer also led additional Ey Friedens congregations at Nicollet and Bagley since the original organization. He plans to depart with his family in early April after Easter. Local friends express regret as they look to his departure. Prof. Axel Brett returned to Urbana after a visit with in-law hosts. Mrs Brett plans to stay another month. Ed J Honl Ends Earthly Career in Sleepy Eye
Ed J Honl a popular traveling salesman for Bearman Fruit Co of Minneapolis shot himself in his Sleepy Eye Leona Hotel room shortly after six. He had left Minneapolis December 16 and promised Christmas with his wife and stepdaughter. His wife learned of his disappearance and traveled from Minneapolis to Sleepy Eye, where she learned of his death. Born March 3 1878 in Aden township he was about 42 and had worked as a traveling salesman since youth. He was married in 1918 and may have left a note or explanation unclear in the report.
