Not Until the Spring Extension to Hatherville Delayed
The new line from New Ulm to Hatherville will not open this winter amid unsettled conditions. Although track construction nears completion, surfacing and winter maintenance render regular service impractical. Officials say carload freight may be moved, with arrangements to avoid delays to town improvements along the line.

City Council Seeks State Loan After Bank Declines Bonds
At a regular meeting city attorney Eckstein reported the Western German Bank of Cincinnati declined the $20,000 defunding bonds for purely technical reasons. The council rescinded prior resolutions and will borrow from the state permanent school and university fund at the same rate of interest, with a possible refund in two years. The bank’s $790 premium is not a true loss, and bonds may be payable at twenty years or earlier at the option of the city. The meeting also considered land donation for a New John Boot & Shoe factory site, offering lots for sale at public auction if necessary. Additional routine items included audit bills totaling $449.93 and a briefing on railroad and mileage developments in the region.
