Aug Merk and Alois Brey disputed over twenty five cents. Brey used a club during the argument. Brey pleaded guilty to third degree assault and paid a $50 fine plus costs. The injured party required stitches for bruises.
Last Wednesday evening the De Molay Commandery of the Knights Templars was inspected by Grand Commander Ovenshire of Minnespolia, with several dignitaries from St Peter Owantonna Springfield Sleepy Eye and Cobden in attendance. Ivanhoe Commandery of St Peter was inspected Friday evening. Local knights listed include ON Henninesen Hf J Beeder Held J F Armstrong O M Olsen dudger M Olsen dH Edwards E G Hage J F Garrow Axel Newdall B A Behoke A W Bingham H N Samsen EB BP Wheeler and A G Melle. The return train arrived at 2:30 am Saturday after a long trip and a generally enjoyable journey. Peter Manderfeld of St Paul transacted business there late in the week.
A large crowd enjoyed the Masquerade Ball at Turner Hall Fastpacht with many costumes from comic to beautiful. The event featured stage numbers including a Marketday scene with about 40 participants, decorated booths, singing peasants, dancing bears, and children in the market square winning first prize. Burg's Battery of 17 girls in blue uniforms earned second prize. the Katzenjamme family and others claimed subsequent prizes. Notable outfits ranged from elegant ladies representing fashions from 1840s to 1910s to groups like Darkies and Indian Girls with prize wins for various masks and character roles.
A late 19th or early 20th century dispatch reports Meredith New Hampshire. Mayor Gaynor of New York helps unite the Armstrong family of St James. The Arm strong family were prominent, with a bank president hotel proprietor and town owner. The bank failed and Mr and Mrs Armstrong died in the crash. The town and family mystery remains unresolved.
A Monday morning blaze destroyed the union depot of the M and St L and C N W roads at Waseca. Flames, fed by strong winds, overwhelmed the station before containment. The Smiths above the eating house lost all. Estimated depot loss nine thousand? five thousand? The incident followed fire originating in the sating house near the depot.
Fire at Eagle Mill caused damage from smoke and water with the automatic sprinkler system stopping the blaze quickly. A lighted pipe in a coat pocket started the fire on the second floor, spreading to the fourth before sprinkler action contained it. insurance will cover all fire related losses.
