Washington and Heinzen tribute honors patriot and thinker

A Turner Hall program paid tribute to Washington and Carl Heinzen, praising Washington as a liberty champion and Heinzen as a defender of religious and political freedom. A. J. Alwin spoke on Washington’s deeds, religious views, and leadership, with readings by Mrs Steinhauser and a paper on Heinzen by Col. Pfacuder. The event followed by college proceedings, music, and another Mixed Choir performance.

Tramp in Justice Court Over Flag Incident

A drunken vagrant named Frank Bennett, described as a tramp, tore down an American flag from the St. Paul Carnival Special over a Pullman connection. He obstructed the train, was removed from the depot, and jailed for six days by Justice Brandt. A second warrant for drunkenness led to ten more days in jail after he pleaded guilty.

Midnight Fire at Northwestern Hotel Leaves Charred Ruins

A mysterious arson attacked the Northwestern Hotel in the early hours Tuesday, oil-soaked porch and a blazing front section trapped guests and workers. Firefighters saved limited furnishings as insurance stood at 1600 for the building, owned by Herman Nagel, with the sole culprit still unknown.
