Accident on Indoor Rifle Range Injures Recruit on Friday

Hero of Outbreak Dead in Wisconsin
Joseph D. Hiscox, veteran of the New Ulm Indio massacre during the Civil War, died at his La Crete Wisconsin home aged 101. Funds Require 20 000 More For New Ulm High School
Despite trimming non essentials the school board must call a special election on March 5 to raise 20 000 additional funds for the high school building designed by Tyrie P Chapman. Provisional contracts with T B Nelson Co and others keep the current estimate, but most districts have exceeded original appropriations. The Nelson bid may total 69 482, about eight thousand less than the earliest bid, with overall cost around 92 892 including plumbing heating and systems. Several contractors won minor contracts with bids read and adjourned to finalize decisions.

Aufderheide plans $6,000 in improvements to enlarge New Ulm Brick and Tile Yards after a record year producing three million bricks and 250,000 fancy pressed bricks. Capacity will rise to 40,000 bricks daily with kiln, sheds, and engine upgrades. Tile and cement blocks grow, with 27,000 to 80,000 drain tiles daily and cement use of 2,600 barrels. two new brick machines and a 65,000 brick kiln planned. Two new sheds, a 75 hp engine, and broader tile efforts target expanding business in 1914.

The famous Senny Philip buffalo herd long kept on a 10,000 acre Pierre pasture is placed on the market by Philip Jr., administrator of the late James Scotty Philip.
