A special Farmers Institute will be held at St George on Wednesday February 9 led by W W P McConnell A Brackett Wm Suter and Harry Suter The event follows a sharp drop in January livestock receipts at South St Paul with hogs down from 121 402 to 65 861 and cattle also diminishing Calves rose slightly while sheep jumped nearly 100 percent Montana supplied most of the 62053 sheep and South St Paul packers still handled most meat duties. Sessions run 10 am and 1 30 pm with a free annual Institute No 22 to be distributed and attendance expected from farming families.

Old Settler Answers Last Call
William Alwin Sr aged 84, a pioneer of New Ulm, died Sunday after a two month illness at his cottage on State Street. Born in 1825 in Putzig, he served in the imperial guard, married Wilhelmina Gruening, and immigrated to the United States in 1855. He homesteaded along the Cottonwood River, helped defend the village during the Indian outbreak, and later lived in New Ulm until his death. He left a large family and was highly regarded as a charitable, principled citizen and founder of the German M E church. funeral at the German M E church Wednesday at 2 PM.

Miller to Testify in Ledbeter Case Returns to Minnesota
Charles J. Miller former police chief and prominent businessman arrived in Mankato from Waterlon Iowa with Deputy Sheriff Phillips to testify in the Grace Ledbeter murder case. He says his return was voluntary though he believes he faced possible indictment and will be thoroughly examined about leaving and the July jail overheard talks between Mrs Ledbeter and Frank Smith.
