Lorenz Helgert of Springfield receives a letter from his brother Joseph Helgert in Vienna Acatria detailing his wartime capture by Russians on December 15 1914 and nine years of hardship in Siberia including hunger cold and forced labor. John G Gronau a well known local contractor loses the middle finger of his left hand in a planing machine accident last Tuesday. John Schauer a wagonmaker and blacksmith of Essig suffers the same injury the day before in a planing mill. Both men had the finger amputated at a local hospital and are recovering nicely, leaving the hospital days after treatment.

Legacy funds endowment given to Dr Luther College
The estate of the late Mrs E C Anding of Minneapolis left a residuary legacy of 2318.88 dollars to Dr Martin Luther College to be placed in its endowment fund. Rev P J Scherf of Balaton Minn chairs the legacies committee. Mrs Anding aided indigent students and supported the college since 1884.

Car Plunges Into Stream In Night Rescue
