Woman Injured by Locomotive in Redwood County Bill Watches Canal Pact

Mrs. Mary Jensen of Redwood County suffered leg fractures beneath the knees after being struck by a switch engine near Med St L while returning from Courtland with Mrs. Mary Hansen and Mrs. Predrika Ley. The three were muffled by wraps in smoke and steam, delaying sight of the approaching train. the other two escaped unharmed. Jensen was hospitalized and is recovering after fractures were reset. Also noted are a state bill for prison twine manufacture and a U.S. Costa Rica Nicaragua canal partnership with seven commissioners and a six year timeframe to finish.

Minneapolis & St. Louis Wil Extend Its Line Southward

Minneapolis and St. Louis Railroad plans extend to Omaha forming a grand trunk line. Route surveys near New Ulm to Omaha guide a 150 mile extension crossing Brown and Watonwan counties and likely reaching Spirit Lake area. Project funds include 25 million in Lands with 6 million already sold to finance the Omaha extension.

Death of Mrs. Josephine Mueller in New Ulm

Mrs Josephine Mueller died after a long illness at age 59 in New Ulm. Born in 1839 in Rothweil am Nea r Germany, she came to America in 1848, married G Andre in 1857, moved to Minnesota, then to New Ulm. Widowed twice, she leaves a daughter Bertha Andre and a son Herman Mueller who died earlier. Funeral held at Turner Hall and city cemetery with Allert Stein as speaker. community offers sympathy.

Supreme Court Lets Peterson Choose Verdict Or New Trial

The Supreme Court orders D. Peterson to accept a $1,000 verdict from Western Union Telegraph or run a new trial. The case has featured multiple trials with varying verdicts, including a prior $9,000 award later deemed excessive. Justice Buck states the company is liable for punitive damages when a telegraph operator acts within scope, but Peterson must remit to $1,000 for a new trial.
