County Board Moves Through Busy Special Session

County Commissioners met in a special session at the Courthouse. Actions include tax appeals referred and denied, settlement agreements in bankruptcies, road expenditures on State Roads No. 1 7 and 8, and inspections confirming Judicial Ditch work. The board approved payments for ditch work and directed audits and future metering to locate electric waste. Regular business closed with adjournment after totaling expenditures.

Brown County Farmers Association Meeting Recap at Springfield

The Springfield meeting of the Brown County Farmers Association drew local farmers merchants and the Ladies Literary Society with a strong showing of farm exhibits. Prizes went to Pioneer Nursery New Ulm Aug Dehn Milford Otto Friton Sleepy Eye and local Springfield entrants. Prof Olesen and Prof Mayne spoke on corn growing soil fertility and farm practices. A Corn Dinner followed with pork beans corn bread and pumpkin pie.

Big Attendance At Men's Club Meeting

The Congregational Church Men's Club held its monthly meeting with about seventy five attendees led by C. J. Buell of St. Paul. Hofmeister's Bayn Orchestra featured fourteen boys ages nine to sixteen, and violin duets by Victor Reim and Capt. Hofmeister. The next meeting is planned for Thursday January 9 with program committee Dr. C. C. Strickler and Mr. H. S. Beecher. Buell criticized taxation on basic goods and land, arguing equal tax treatment for quarter sections regardless of improvements.
