Club Committee Members Named

The Commercial Club met with strong attendance as plans moved on for a large Idaho Christmas tree to be placed at Minnesota and First North Streets with wiring donated by the city. A second bridge route was debated by the Redstone Bridge Committee, while committees proposed advertising efforts and a Brown County Fair banquet. Also noted were new club memberships and a New Ulm Red Cross donation of 2163.43 to German and Austro-Hungarian consulates.

Does Not Want to Pay Wallin Appeals Damages Suit

Harris Wallin of Comfrey appeals a $1800 judgment against him for injuring Hulda Wiese with a shotgun at the Wiese farm. Wallin, paroled from prison, sought to vacate the judgment citing excusable neglect. the Supreme Court will rule at the April term. The plaintiff’s levy on Wallin’s inherited share was sold last May, and the appeal is led by Samson, Dempsey & Mueller with Aug G Erickson for the woman.

Madelia votes on postmaster candidate in village poll

On December 9 from 9 am to 4 pm Madelia residents may register votes for postmaster. All registered voters from the last Madelia election can participate. Three candidates remain active and Hammond allows voters to choose their preferred candidate. In unrelated note a ghostly whim circulates urging not to buy seals.

City to lit tree and install waste cans at intersection

At a regular city council meeting, plans were approved to erect the Christmas tree at Minnesota and 1st North Streets with the city wiring the globe and providing electricity free of charge. Dr. Seifert received permission to buy and install waste cans for $6 each, and water concerns from Goose Town Well and nearby wells prompted boil-only use. Other items included city hall site purchase for $3,000, armory rent set at $250, steam heating bids, and road routing discussions to Redstone Courtland.

Supreme Court Sets Cases and Opening of December Term

Opening of the December term of Brown County District Court directed by Judge Olsen. Grand jury duties assigned to Schapekahm bailiff and Weisenborn Raverty as petit jury assistants. Various civil cases listed for jury or nonjury trial. some marked as not jury-trial due to Supreme Court rulings. Brown County Agricultural Society Holds Annual Meeting

Stockholders gathered at the Commercial club rooms where the secretary’s annual report was reviewed. Officials discussed improving access to the fair grounds, potential four day fair plans for 1915, and the possibility of a concrete grand stand, with election of directors postponed to January.

School Board Buys Fixtures From James Corday Co

The Board of Education awarded the electric light fixtures contract to James Corday Company of Minneapolis for 1150 dollars. Simmons McDonald Company and Everling Electric Company offered higher bids but were rejected for not meeting specifications. Fred Meyer becomes janitor at Kew High School, Theo Scheiderich named chief engineer in charge of heating. no Washington School janitor elected. Christian Endeavor Society met at Mrs Bertha Schmidt's home last Friday with officer elections followed by social reading and refreshments.

Burglars Strike C G Carlson Co Store In New Ulm

Police report a double misfortune as a fire earlier in the week was followed by a burglary at the C G Carlson Co store. Thieves entered through a basement window, took suits coats shoes watches and jewelry valued around 150 dollars, and fled on an early Minneapolis train. A sweater left behind and a coat found in a bar car at Farmers Elevator pointed to two strangers seen in town the day before. Night officer John Herzog warns of a rising prowler presence as locals remain vigilant.

St Peter Brews Under Fire After Warrant Seizures

Search warrants were issued Saturday for several Third Street and Minnesota Avenue soft drink spots in St. Peter. County Attorney George T. Olson, Sheriff August Olson, and Chief Michael Dempery served warrants. Ubair malt and ginger ale were seized for analysis. Kopp’s case heads to a Wednesday hearing. One land’s on Friday. both defendants out on bail.
