Fire Burns Hanska Stores and Bank in $26,000 Loss
A devastating Hanska fire demolished three major buildings on Main Street, causing about $26,000 in damage with only $6,800 insured. O. K. Kjerlaug, owner of the leading firm, left penniless while J. W. Haenze of Hanska Herald and barber Theodore Surheim narrowly survived after authorities fought the blaze through the night. Fire started from an exploding lamp in Kjerlaug & Co.'s store, trapping residents as a bucket brigade formed to aid firefighting efforts involving hundreds of townspeople. The Bank of Hanska and other shops suffered scorch marks. Nelson & Grothe and O. W. Hart's properties also bore losses as the town reeled from this catastrophe.

Mrs. William Glaessman of Lafayette township Nicollet county was frightened by a gas explosion from fresh coal in her stove. She fell backward fracturing her left arm above the elbow and dislocating her left shoulder. She had just recovered from a prior arm fracture and broken ribs two months earlier.

Editor shoots himself in foot in hunting accident
C. C. Cooly of the Lafayette Ledger suffered a gun accident Saturday while hunting near Searles. He held a 22 caliber rifle muzzle down when the trigger was pulled, wounding his left foot with the bullet entering between the toes and lodging in the sole of his shoe. A New Ulm physician dressed the wound.
