Brown County Fair Announces Large New Attractions

The Brown County Fair announces its largest lineup yet with new attractions and aviation plans. A government aeroplane flight is sought from Minneapis pilots, while a balloon flight is arranged. New acts include the Lavala Trio, Ishikawa pyrotechnists, and the Six Flying Lamys replacements. Tuesday is Children’s Day with free admission for county students and a large flag tableau led by Mrs. John Woldrick. Hofmeister’s band will play across the event.

Pioneer Lodge Donation Receives Generous Local Support

Mr and Mrs Chas L Roos of Wellington Kansas gave 25 for the Pioneer Lodge building and suggested a fireplace. Mrs Hoerr of St Louis donated 50 at dedication, reflecting a fine spirit in honoring the Brown and Nicollet Counties pioneers with a memorial.

New Vulcanizing Shop Opens With Rebuilding Plant

Herbert Vogelpohl returns from Minneapolis having bought equipment for an auto tire vulcanizing shop. He installed a rebuilding and re tread ing plant and will specialize in this work. Vogelpohl previously ran a similar operation in Jackson Minnesota and spent many years in the local plumbing trade.

Registration of Twenty One Year Men In New Ulm

Sheriff Julius reports from General Crowder a nation wide registration of all men who have turned twenty one since the last roll call. The local registration is set for Saturday next August 24 in the court room from seven in the morning to nine at night. About 150000 men nationwide are expected to register that day. Women interested in the Government nurse service may obtain details from Mrs. Gustave Schwyzer in Minneapolis.

Beef Restrictions Lifted for Winter Food Stores

Federal orders remove public and household beef restrictions as of 1918, urging use of cattle under 475 pounds to reserve heavier stock for troops and Allies. A letter from the Minnesota State Food Administration affirms salt and cure of meats for winter, encourages canning of fruits and vegetables, and supports storing meats and produce to endure scarce production periods.

Sugar beet boom promises sugar for Nicollet county

Three farms C T Weibezahn James Biggar and OBrien Bros near St Peter plant 113 acres to raise beets for Nicollet county supply. Expected yield at least 10 tons per acre likely over 12 tons. About 288000 pounds of refined sugar from 113 acres at 9 per ton, with 27000 total revenue. Minnesota sugar planters anticipate near tripling quota and earlier harvest. Chaska factory tops current output. extra 6000 acres could support another plant.

Local Red Cross Chapter Sends Large July August Shipment

The New Ulm Red Cross Chapter including Hanska Albin Essig Linden and New Ulm sent a large consignment to Minneapolis state headquarters. The draft totals 100 pajamas 100 hospital bed shirts 100 chemise 60 bed socks 10 helmets 450 socks 2 layettes and 100 boys suits plus 3125 2x2 wipes for wound care. The boys suits aid refugees and monthly shipments continue to Minneapolis.

Fort Ridgely Plans Big Anniversary Celebration

Fort Ridgely prepares for the August 22 observance marking the last day of the 1862 siege with a full program by the Fort Ridgely State Park and Historical Association.
