Train Kills Stranger Near Sleepy Eye On Final Run
A Chicago and Northwestern engine driven by Ralph Yates struck and killed a man walking on the main line near Sleepy Eye. The deceased, a 55 to 60 year old stranger, showed no identity and had been drinking. Coroner and sheriff deemed it accidental. the engineer retires at 70 the next day. Police search continues for the man’s relatives, including a possible link to Selma Johnson of Chicago.

Lafayette was visited by petty burglars who broke into Farmers Creamery, The Great Western Elevator, and a store last week. The trespassers used clumsy methods, suggesting they were new at the job and possibly tramps. No significant items were taken.

Copper thieves escaped with nearly 500 pounds of wire from the city electric light plant last Wednesday night. Most recovered but insulation burned off, lowering utility value. Sunday afternoon a collision occurred at Center and Minnesota as Anton Beyer riding a motorcycle disputed right of way with Major Albert Pfaender in a Chandler Six driven by Adolph Amann carrying Mrs Plaender and friends. Beyer was on the wrong side of the road and paid the price with damage to the motorcycle and minor paint loss to the car.

Burglars Startle New Ulm Citizens With Window Entries
A night of fear struck New Ulm residents as a lone burglar, dubbed a window thief, attempted three homes on First North German and Valley streets. He entered via open windows, escaping after brief confrontations with the Fritz, Young, and Reardon families. At Fritz’s place around 11:15 p.m. the intruder fled after guards spotted his entry. Young lost $2.02 and narrowly escaped as Mrs Young screamed. a rope was used to test entry near a window. Reardon family awoke to a man at the gate, prompting further alarm and a continued police search. The burglar remains at large.
