Cottonwood River Power Feasibility Declared Unviable
Hydraulic engineer Mr. Fanning and City Engineer Minum conclude that a 50 ft dam on the Big Cottonwood near New Ulm is not financially viable. With a 54.85 second feet average flow in 1913, potential power would not cover costs including flowage, land, and maintenance. The report notes low regional rainfall and high evaporation limiting usable water, ending hopes for a local electric power project.
