The school board approved an 8 mill general fund levy, 2 for transportation, and 3 for interest and sinking, one mill more than last year. Delinquent school taxes total 3217 dollars. New Plymouth council set 10 mills for general purposes and 2 for interest and sinking, same as last year, with no extra bond levy. Delinquent town taxes amount to 1053.41 dollars.
E L Martin was seriously hurt when scaffolding at a fruit storage cellar gave way and a timber struck his face. He is improving at Holy Rosary hospital Ontario with injuries to his nose cheekbone forehead and skull. His sons Chancey of Wallace Idaho and Wallace of Spokane Wash are staying through the fruit season.
Sixty two neighbors surprised Mr and Mrs Milton Darrall at their new home with a Wednesday evening house warming on August 5, guests presenting a new rocking chair to the couple.
The annual meeting of the W. C. T. U. will be held at the home of Mrs. Anna Smock on Friday, August 21. An nual reports and election of officers followed by a social half hour. All members and prospective members and all ladies interested are cordially invited. Please remember your dues.
The Fellowship class hosted a lawn party surprise shower for Miss Esther Johnson at the C. F. Eder home. Guests included about ninety who heard a radio mock wedding with H. M. Wiseman as bride and Clare Jacobs as groom. Miss Johnson, trainee nurse, plans marriage to Robin Burrell of Columbus, Ohio, a chemistry teacher and MS recipient at the State University.
A 14 year old girl, daughter of A Aeshelman of Yorkington Nevada, survived a lightning strike after wearing rubber boots on her father s farm. It took 20 minutes to revive her, and the physician credited the boots with limiting the bolt s strength.

Six planes started the Escadrille mission to Morocco without incident but the departure from Le Bourget was marred when Major Happe and Lieutenant Colonel Austen Parker of Helena Mont were forced to land after takeoff. Both aviators escaped uninjured.

An impressive ground breaking ceremony was held for a new Baptist church last Sunday afternoon. Pastor Henry Jacobs spoke of the occasion as an epoch and outlined four reasons for the building including future church needs, child welfare, community service, and devotion to God. Mrs Joseph Stone was honored with turning over the first shovelful of dirt.
In a House of Commons debate on the national economy Winston Churchill the chancellor of the exchequer urged a decisive halt in national expenditures. The discussion filled most of the day and the session adjourned until November 16.
County surveyor C P Lattig started today a boundary survey of Drainage District No 8. Commissioners H R Ficken John Reinhart and Herb Bayer were on site. An assessment of one dollar per acre will cover organization costs. The board plans to proceed without bonding the district.
Two trustees will be chosen as terms of Dr. Drysdale and A. J. Snyder expire. Both men are expected to seek re-election in the Sept. 1 school election.
The American Legion Auxiliary will meet next week Friday evening August 21 at the John Anderson home with Mrs. Ludlow Fahnestock. New officers will be installed and new members initiated as the group urges eligible women to join. Eligibility requires a father brother husband or son who is a paid up American Legion member. members should persuade the male relative to join if not yet in the Legion. A plan aims for a high turnout and near 100 percent Auxiliary membership.
Rome reports the government has appropriated 20 million lire about 1.2 million dollars for study and exploitation work on the oil lands of Albania in a bid to advance its energy interests.
Louis Gans founder of the New Britain Zionist organization dies at 60 in New Britain Connecticut. His body will be transported to Jerusalem for burial among the rulers of the kingdom of David with honors accorded to a pioneer of Zionism.
Police recovered a silver water pitcher once given by the late President Wilson. It was found among loot checked at the Lion Tamers' club, an organization of negro boys. A porter at Miller's tin works admitted stealing the pitcher from the office safe and checking it at the club.
A mass meeting of New Plymouth phone patrons is set for Monday night in the Congregational church basement. Purpose to decide action on a proposed 60 percent rate increase for farmers phones and tolls to Fruitland and Payette, and to remove free service between towns in Payette county by the Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph Co. A utilities commission representative and a company representative will be invited.
Dewey Augustus Blair of Blackfoot and Pearl Hendrick of Blackfoot obtained a marriage license on August 7 at the court house.
President Coolidge recalls his agricultural conference to push a cooperative marketing program and farm aid with John T. Adams of Iowa as a guest. He notes farm prices are good and supports voluntary railroad consolidation to ease transportation issues, eyeing Van Sweringen plans with ICC approval as pivotal.

Eight hundred cows were tested in the Weiser-Payette cow testing association in July, averaging 28 lbs of fat and 670 lbs of milk per cow. Several top cows are named including Inka, Ruth, Rag, Spot, and multiple herds with notable fat yields, led by R M Jennings and S W High families.
The Ohio picnic at W. N. Curtiss home Tuesday drew about 100 attendees and pleased participants. Dr. H. C. Darrah was elected president succeeding A. A. Stettler of Fruitland, with Mrs. H. C. Prior 18 vice president and Calvin Keller re-elected secretary treasurer. Dinner was served on the Curtiss porch and a winter society meeting is discussed.
Fourth prize for highest grade and price received for eggs during the six months ending July 1 went to Mrs. J. A. Gwin. The announcement was made at Egg Day in Cauldwell. Eighteen hundred people attended the meeting in Memorial Park. speakers stressed the value of a cooperative creamery at Payette as a leading example.
Germany files ratification with the League of Nations for the convention on simplifying customs formalities. Signed by 34 nations in Geneva in November 1924, it became operative on November 27, 1924, with U S observers present.
