Fire destroys Bittinger house near Bethlehem mines
A Thursday night blaze destroyed the two and a half story Bittinger dwelling owned by L L Bittinger near the Carlisle Pike and Bethlehem mines. The fire, possibly incendiary, left one side occupied by Mervin Myers intact on the first floor while the other side housed Mrs Annie Shultz. Neighbors helped remove contents from the Myers side. the upper floor on Shultz’s side burned. About 1,000 spectators watched as flames raged for over an hour. Insurance covered the loss on both structures.

Fire of unknown origin destroyed a large bank barn on the William B. Rohrbaugh farm near New Baltimore. Loss exceeds $11,000, with grain, potatoes, 30 chickens, and farm implements consumed. A threshing crew and neighbors fought the blaze but two mules and several outbuildings were saved.
