Herman Kain of Gettysburg and Claude Grult of MeSberryetown were involved in a late night fight at the Hotel O Bold in Hanover around 10 o clock. Kain was arrested and jailed, while search for Grult continued without success.
Capt. and Mrs. J. A. Pfeiffer of Washington D C spent a few days with H. W. Swarts and family in Hanover. Dozens of residents from Lincoln Way East West Littlestown York Springs and other nearby towns visited relatives and friends in Hanover over the weekend and on Sunday. The Hershey family plans to move from Hanover to Quarryville next Monday.
Hymenial between Gorman B Blaeser son of Mr and Mrs J Blaeser of near York and Grace Frey daughter of Wm H Frey of Gettysburg took place Friday afternoon at 2 30 at the bride’s brother Ivan E Frey home in Gettysburg. Rev John C Reaser conducted the ceremony.
Dale E. Cline son of William Cline of Tyrone township weds Miss May C Decker daughter of merchant Harry Decker of Reading township. The ceremony took place Sunday evening conducted by Rev. J Coulson.
Gregory Neidererr of Brushtown and Regina M Hagerman of McSherrystown were married in a Nuptial Mass at St Marys church at 7 AM Tuesday, celebrated by Rev Fr Reudter.
Mrs Amelia Menges of near Abbottstown was a patient in York Hospital’s medical ward for several weeks and was discharged Friday evening, reported much improved.
Conductor Clinton Wintrode and motorman Andrew Shanebrook of the Lattlest town trolley line hauled the largest passenger load ever on a single car in Han Over at 8 15 Saturday morning with 203 passengers aboard not counting children.
A 26 year old boarder, Howard Riffle of 2112 Archatrecet, killed himself after reading a letter. He died at Medico-Chi Hospital with a poison bottle nearby. Riffle, married and separated for three years, left a widow, one child, and his mother Mrs George Riffle. An inquest was held. body taken to Littlestown for interment.
Herbert Matthews of Gettysburg, believed pursued by Chief Emmons, forced entry into the county jail by breaking a kitchen door. He caused disturbances, was restrained by Officer Shearer, and is deemed mentally deranged. The report also notes the death of Mrs. Elizabeth Dolfiff, the oldest woman in Carlisle area, aged 86, 7 months, and 3 days.
President Wilson views the informal exchanges with Germany Great Britain France and Russia as inconclusive and tied to nothing definite. Ambassador Gerard reported Bethmann Hollweg wants to know enemy intentions and demands German territorial security before any peace talks.
Morris Bream of Penbrook died at 1 30 p m Friday after burns from a gasoline explosion at a Harrisburg garage on Wednesday morning. The 18 year old, son of Albert Bream, had been hospitalized in Harrisburg with injuries from head to feet. Albert Bream left the bedside 10 minutes before death and planned to return the next morning. Other injured men remained in serious condition. The body was sent to Benderaville Station for burial in Ground Oak Cemetery.

Cland Hamme of Reading township recovers from a severe typhoid attack and can move about again. Mrs Joanna Wise celebrated her first birthday anniversary at her Gettysburg home and reports excellent health. Mrs Wise is the widow of Mrs Munsaguel Ginter of Irishtown, aged 65, now also in good health. A Pittsburg businessman learning his seven story Pittburgh building burned down, causing half a million dollars in losses, disrupted a battlefield trip. Logan and party from Gettysburg briefly paused their Eastern Pennsylvania journey to arrange plans for the return trip.
A roundup of short items reports a black snake and a copperhead killed in Abbottstown on Sunday. Notable moves include Prof Dale Crankleton becoming principal of New Cumberland schools, and Dr. J Harbold planning to stay in Yorkana. Other items note real estate, obituaries, charity gifts, parade prizes, and a fatal accident involving a boy in Freland.
Due to wheat shortages in Holland the Association of Dutch Bakers sanctioned a tulip bread using one third ground tulip bulbs. The bread is said to be nourishing and the war ministry has recommended its use in the army.
Professor Charles Richel president of the Society for Arbitration Between the Nations says in Paris that Germany cannot wage war beyond five months. He cites Germany's five months of provisions and potential imports via neutral nations as insufficient to sustain a longer conflict.
