Five Thousand Dollar Barn Fire Near Hampton
A farm blaze on the Peter Smith property near Brown's Dam east of Hampton destroyed a large barn and its contents. Tenants John and Irene Haar and William Haar saved livestock and equipment, with four horses and two mules perishing. Firemen from New Oxford and Abbottstown battled the flames from about 4:30 a.m. The loss, partly insured, included hay, grain, corn fodder, and machinery. The Haars have resided on the Reading township farm for two years.

Man Breaks Leg While Helping Stranded Driver Near Hanover
Faber Kuhn, 38, of Hanover, suffered a broken right leg while assisting a stranded motorist on the Hanover Abbottstown highway. The accident occurred about two and a half miles north of Hanover as Herbert Flickinger skidded into a ditch and was aided by others when another car struck their grouping. Several injured residents were treated at Hanover General Hospital. officer George J. Evanko investigated.
