Nuox Borough Council meets in a quiet session approving a complex agreement with Donald Smith to fund and own a sewage system for a new shopping center east of the borough line. The action includes a right of way, water service, and rental credits offsetting costs over 12 years.
Adams County Poultry Association elected new officers at a full organizational meeting held at the Gettysburg National Bank West Street branch. Elected were Arthur B. Musselman president Walter Griest vice president Roy Wetzel secretary and George R. Worley treasurer A tentative annual meeting date was set for February 9.
Afiss Sally McCadden of Gettysburg spent the weekend with aunts Miss Madelin McCadden and Mrs. Earl Collins in Berlin Road. Visitors included Mrs. Florence Yantis and Mrs. Joseph Sneeringer and children. Announced 35th wedding anniversary for Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Wolfe of Hanover. Jane Spangler from Shippensburg High School chaperoned a Williamsburg Virginia trip for students. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Leonard moved to Hanover from 12 Berlin Road. Mrs. George Haar moved to a home purchased from the Leonards. Clyde R. Champion and wife returned to Wake Forest NC after a 10 day stay with Mrs. Champion’s niece Mrs. John L. Schaline. Sister Marie Perpetua of Allentown visited her mother Mrs. Marie Sneeringer. Mr. and Mrs. John Groff and Miss Corrine Groff of Hanover visited Henry Moore and Mr. Groff’s brother-in-law and wife Curtis H. E. Smith of Edge Grove. Michael Wells of Wheaton, Virginia, and his wife visit Mrs. Wells’ parents in Edge Grove. Women’s Association of Great Conewago Presbyterian Church met at the home of Mrs. Paul Kuykendail in Hunterstown. Continued on Page 12.
At a brief New Oxford School Board meeting last Wednesday evening at the high school, two new auditors were proposed for appointment by the court Merle Yohe of New Oxford Route 1 and H B Flaherty. The census completion was reported for Abbottsown and Berwick with other districts pending. October elementary circulation figures showed Berlin Street 1601 books Peters Street 1333. Principal Docker proposed closing the entire district on Monday November 2 the deer season opening day due to high absence. the board approved with the day off made up later.
The Adams County Library Bookmobile will visit Bonneauville Hostetters Mt Pleasant and McSherrystown next week with time slots listed. Dorothy's in New Oxford advertises Girls Wranglers at 2.49 dollars with contact number 624 2575.
George N. Wade, 73, Camp Hill insurance agent and 24 year state senator, won reelection to the 31st District. Wade, a Republican, will begin his seventh consecutive term in January, defeating Democrat John A. Carden 52 816 to 26 927. County results show Wade carried Adams Cumberland Perry Juniata and York precincts, with varying margins across regions.
James R. Brady promoted to assistant manager at Central Sora’s New Oxford turkey processing plant New Oxford facility manager T M Bross Jr announced Brady began with Central Sora in 1958 as feed oil clerk in Des Moines and held several posts before transferring to Monroe North Carolina plant.
Baseball Boys Selling Candy for the New Oxford Junior Baseball League begin their annual sale this Saturday. Meet at 2 PM at the New Oxford firehall and start selling from there. Charles Markel, 2 Lincolnway West, is in charge and urges immediate purchases to fund their uniform drive. Call 624-8431 to arrange brittle delivery.
Dr. Ray K. Drex announced that about 310,000 in reports last week pushed the county drive total to 50,107.95. If trends continue, the campaign aims to reach 379,936 within weeks with breakdowns including Special gifts 12,916.50 and Commercial gifts 5,928. County industry contributes 37,835.45 and residential collectors 12,304.50.
New Oxford Postmaster Clyde C Garber notes strong patron response to zip code requests for out of town addresses but some return cards lack signed names and addresses. Complete street addresses are needed for accurate coding as some communities have multiple ZIP numbers.
Voters in New Oxford and East Berlin favored Raymond Shafer for governor in Tuesday’s polls. New Oxford led Shafer over Shapp 292 to 246, East Berlin 237 to 145, with results also listed for Li governor secretary of internal affairs supreme court congress state senator and assemblyman races and constitutional amendments. Turnout reached 72 percent in New Oxford.
The New Oxford Parent-Teacher Organization will host a meeting in the elementary school cafeteria Monday. High School Guidance Counselor will speak on The Work of a Guidance Counselor, with emphasis for parents of children in junior and senior high.
About 125 high school seniors took the annual state scholarship examination last Wednesday at New Oxford and Gettysburg High Schools under County Superintendent M. Francis Coulson. Test-takers arrived at 9 a.m. and finished shortly after noon. Sixty-three seniors were from Biglerville Fairfield and Gettysburg, while sixty-two came from Bermudian Springs Delone Catholic Littlestown New Oxford St Joseph's Academy at McSherrystown.
George A. Goodling, a Loganville fruit grower and former two term congressman, defeated incumbent N Neiman Crale y by 2102 votes in the 19th district covering Adams Cumberland and York Counties. Craley carried York County but lost Cumberland and Adams where Goodling won by wide margins.

An evening nine twenty crash in New Oxford involved a 1956 Ford driven by Robert Alien Bucher age 18 of Berlin Avenue. His car hit a parked vehicle owned by Susanna Lee Miller on Lincolnway West. Passenger Brian Eckert aged 12 from New Oxford sustained a knee laceration needing eight stitches. Bucher’s passenger Ina Mae Eckert was unharmed. New Oxford the borough will flush fire hydrants late today and Friday citywide. Residents and households are warned of possible rust and sediment in taps during the operation as the Borough Council oversees the process.
Rev John Z Martin of New Oxford was reelected president of the Adams County Home Auxiliary at a regular meeting. Officers chosen include Vice President Rev Joseph Kealy Gettysburg Treasurer Mrs Anna Smith Gettysburg Secretary Mrs Lloyd Garretson Arendsville and Corresponding Secretary Mrs Bess Kapp Gettysburg. Beulah Kuhn introduced as a new Annie Danner Club representative. Activities report donations of money foodstuffs clothing and articles. a program by 20 guests from Pleasant Acres York County Home. Christmas party planned for December 20. Health of guests reported good and call for more therapy and crafts help. New social worker Mrs Sirs Samuel Mudd urged foster homes for guests no longer needing institution care. Committee chairmen filed reports.
New Oxford police chief Robert McKain reports several arrests this week for disorderly conduct after youths moved an iron safety zone patrolman from New Oxford High School and parked it on Lincolnway West. Suspects include Stanley Lee Harbold 18 Abbotts Town R1 Billy Wayne Higgins 39 Manchester Md R1 Robert Eusene Beckner 18 Hanover IRs and Dennis Lee Rohrer 12 New Oxford R2. All fined 10 dollars plus 2.25 costs and required to clean three fire trucks and the ambulance at the fire hall. Also Newton Thomas 333 W Main St Mechanicsburg charged for backing into a curb on Center Square Nov 8. Jerry Lee Eagle Box 11 New Oxford 28 was apprehended for a stop sign violation.
The Kiown Fire Company auxiliary in Irishtown set a December 13 Christmas banquet. Committee members include Mrs. Anna Lurk, Mrs. Corrine Smith, Mrs. Vivian Kuhn, Miss Darlene Felix and Mrs. Joan Riser.
Adams County gave majorities to Republicans in Tuesday's vote with Lt. Governor Shafer toppling opponents in the county race. Shafer won 10,283 votes to 3,999 for Wilton Shepp, as Democrats joined Republicans in strong returns. Francis Worley was reelected to the Assembly from Adams County 9,832 to 6,624.
Miss Teresa Schughart, runner up in the county VFW queen contest, received a watch from Lloyd Chronister at a military ball sponsored by the Adams County Veterans Council at the Gettysburg VFW home. Miss Sandra Crouse of Littlestown was crowned queen. other local visitors and club notices follow.
The National Council of Catholic Women of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church Abbottstown forms a committee for an every family canvas on November 20 to gather Christmas gifts for the needy to be given by Catholic Charities Gettysburg. A parish Christmas party is set for December 15. In October two infant layettes were collected and donated to Catholic Charities.
