Adams County Library appoints Miss Lillian J Sawyer librarian
Miss Lillian J Sawyer, longtime Littlestown resident and DC library director, was elected librarian for Adams County Free Library at the November board meeting. She will start January 1, replacing Miss Farran who ends 15 months of service. Sawyer’s background includes a Carnegie Institute degree and leadership across 13 DC branches.

Library bookmobile reaches thousands of loans this year
The library reports over 76 000 loans through September and October with 6 700 books moved by the bookmobile. Service remained uninterrupted by the main library’s move. Staff served refreshments to board members as fall flowers brightened the staff area.

State police of Gettysburg report October 1949 with 23 accidents injuring 13 and 8,835 dollars in property damage. Three Properties Sold By Sheriff in Reading Township
Three tracts of land in Mack and Levanis A Ma Carty were sold at sheriff’s sale in the county court house Saturday morning. Edward Benne was the purchaser of one tract of 84 acres for 2000 dollars. Daotrerts purchased another 83 acre tract including a stone house for 4700 dollars. A third tract with a brick dwelling and barn was bought by Attorney Franklin R Bizham for 38400 dollars for the benefit of the Reading area welfare committee the proceeds to fund Christmas gifts for local children.

Father and Son Fined For Killing Deer
Chartes Shindledecker and his son Glenn paid $100 fines to Justice of the Peace John H Base for killing a deer out of season and possessing illegal venison. Game Protector Leo Bushman seized the deer and turned them over to the county jail. The deer were killed on October 7.
