An advertisement claims Dr Miles Heart Cure and Nervine can diagnose and treat heart disease. It cites a testimonial from ARS LILLIE THOMAS of Upper Sandusky Ohio who reports rapid improvement and weight gain after thirteen bottles, with a money back guarantee from Miles Medical Co.
The Register publishes a long list of Administration Accounts to be confirmed May 13 in Adams County Orphans Court. Entries include first and final accounts for executors andAdministrators of estates such as Isabella Sell William J Wampler Caroline Cline Noah Sell Benjamin Clouser Lydis Rieser Wesley D Oyler Annie Krichten Polly Sunday S L Crouse and others.
Court reconvened with a jury verdict for the plaintiff in Dr. John R. Dickson vs T E Blair & Co over a 24 08 balance. Other items include guardianship hearings, estate actions, divorces, road and bridge viewings, and a proposed 734 000 pension funding bill for Civil War veterans. A burglary near Edgemont saw thieves take portable household items from John H Cameron’s home.
In Philadelphia on Easter, Franz Endrakat shot Martha Korais after she refused to marry him. He then shot himself, dying six months later in hospital. Endrakat, 33, had followed Korais from Pomerania after a prior failed attempt. Korais was 22 and employed as a maid.
A half built pier at Locust Point collapsed into Baltimore Harbor sending a six foot wave through the inner harbor. Ten men were dead and eighteen injured as the structure from Baltimore Bridge and McLean Contracting for the Baltimore & Ohio railroad sank after a fire wall failed. The two story pier, 930 feet long with 430 feet over water, drew workers to safety moments before the collapse.
Officials from Berwind-White at Foustwell report seven miners trapped by water for 84 hours in Mine 38. Pumps drain the dip toward the men as a 400-foot water wall blocks access. Foremen say it will take about 12 hours to reach and extract them once the area is cleared.
Postmaster General Meyer approved a new rural free delivery salary schedule effective July 1. The plan raises carrier compensation by 9 to 25 percent depending on route length, with annual pay ranging from 432 to 900 dollars based on miles traveled.
Sugar consumption in the United States for the year ending June is expected to break records. Bureau of Statistics notes nine months ending March imported 3 692 000 000 pounds, higher than 1903. Domestic sugar production in 1906 reached 1 304 000 000 pounds, beating 1905 by 14 000 000.
Frank Drisca, 42, a Pressed Steel Car employee, was beaten by three Black men on the West Penn tracks in Allegheny, then run over by a locomotive. He identified suspects before losing more consciousness and is dying at Allegheny General Hospital. Robbery reported as motive.
Five men Howard Reeves Theodore Wells Caleb Rogers Harvey Reeves and Henry Hammerl were arrested and charged with murdering farmer David Beebe of Red Lion near Mount Holly New Jersey on April 20. Beebe and party mates were at Irwin Mathias home when attackers struck in darkness. The motive appears to be to break up the merrymaking rather than any personal grievance.
Carrie Mattson aged 21 died after taking strychnine in Sioux City Indiana on April 27 She claimed she did it for amusement to observe blood flow stop and nails turn blue The victim was a farmer's daughter and appeared well with no romantic disappointments.
In Providence Rhode Island Mrs Louise Holden 40 shot and killed her husband Lee Holden then wounded her son Louis A Williams 15 before shooting herself. She died at Rhode Island Hospital with the son Victim expected to die. Police attribute long nervous trouble as a motive.
In Jersey City on April 29 a collapsed ball game stand killed Russell Neilsen age six and injured several men and boys.
Harrisburg April 23. The Capitol investigation heard Edwin Morse testify that Payne & Co padded bills on subcontractor stationery to gain profits. Testimony showed $15,504.07 extra on elevator extensions and $53,559.11 billed versus $35,665.20 actual, with $17,893.91 in Payne’s favor.
David Willcox former president of the Delaware and Hudson Railroad died on the North German Lloyd steamer Barbarossa near Genoa Naples. A captain's report to Health Officer Doty said Willcox shot himself, causing death by his own action. He had resigned recently due to ill health and was reported to be seeking recovery abroad.
