In Hagzieton Virginia on April 23 Michael Cherko was killed about 160 feet from the Greek Catholic church during Greek Easter services. George Smith was arrested charged with the crime after entering the church with hat on, a trustee asked him to remove it, he drew a blackjack and attacked Cherko. Cherko fled the door then Smith shot him in the back, death instantaneous. Smith was subdued by mourners and taken to the station. The Easter service disruption caused a stir among attendees.
