Fire at Samuel Allison farm barn destroys storage shed
Three White children admitted playing with fire near a straw stack that spread to a 40 by 60 foot barn on the former Samuel Allison farm three miles east of Gettysburg. The blaze damaged a chicken house hog pen and a smokehouse, with about a ton of hay and corn fodder burned. Fire companies saved nearby buildings. the barn and shed were destroyed while the dwelling house remained intact. The incident prompted investigation of the children who were questioned with a toy pistol and burned shoes found. The barn was insured.

A new Lions club was organized Thursday evening by business and professional men in upper Adams County. The Upper Adams County Lions club, headquartered in Biglerville, enrolled 35 members from Idaville Aspers Gardners Bendersville Peach Glen Arendville and Biglerville. A Charter Night with New Oxford Lions will be held May 10 at Cross Keys.
