Auto crash near Hanover injures three children
In a Sunday evening wreck near New Baltimore, a machine driven by Calvin Allewell skidded on a wet road and struck a roadside sign. His nine year old son Arthur suffered a broken right leg and loss of teeth, his sixteen year old daughter Henrietta sustained severe flesh wounds, and his wife broke her right arm. The family had been at Gettysburg and were returning home. Witnesses say straightening the car would likely have avoided the collision. The boy’s femur was broken at the upper end with a three inch bone fragment found in his clothing. The family’s other members escaped injury. The husband, foreman at Hanover’s shoe factory, rode with Isabel and Edward. Arthur’s injury could leave him crippled and disfigured. The car and sign were badly damaged. The second item notes George Fauth, 70, of York, who committed suicide by hanging after long illness. The fragment season in Pennsylvania opens on July 3.
