Letters testamentary granted to F W Topper Exr of Adams County estate. All debts must be paid promptly. Claims or demands should be presented to Topper at McSherrystown or to Raymond F Topper, Attorney, Gettysburg, by June 20, 1961.
Notice declares the partnership between C. J. Shriver and J. P. Marquet in New Oxford dissolved on May 25 1929 by mutual consent. Debts to the firm are payable to C. J. Shriver and all claims presented to him. Business of plumbing heating and tinsmithing continues under J. F. Marquet.
Pen Mar offers a bustling season with hotels cottages and park grounds primed for visitors from Baltimore Washington Norfolk Richmond and Pittsburgh. The Maryland National Guard Camp at Cascade will draw families July 6 to late August. Western Maryland Railway promotes excursions from regional towns and cities with Independence Day demand and a packed reunion and excursion calendar through September 2.
A coroner's jury absolved Charles H Brown of responsibility in the death of Elvin Norman who was fatally struck by Brown's car on the Bonneauville hill east of Rock Creek. Brown, a Hanover safe man, testified he did not see Norman until too late and aided after the collision. Norman, a 69 year old Washington county inmate, died en route to Warner hospital.
Tilman Young and Richard Fisse were arrested for impersonating officers during an attempted raid at William A. Shultz’s home in Hanover. They appeared before Justice Witmer, could not post bail, and were remanded to York County jail for the August term of court.
Prof. W. W. Eisenhart, Tyrone schools principal, and Miss Elsie Eisenhart, Ebensburg high school teacher, have come back to spend their vacation with their parents Mr. and Mrs. J. Franklin Eisenhart in Abbottstown.
Upton S. Thomas, 76, likely prompted by a recent health decline, died by hanging Thursday in his brother Ephraim S. Thomas’s barn in Gettysburg. He was found by Ephraim after sisters reported his absence, with death certified by Adams County coroner Dr. E A Miller. Born near New Chester, Thomas lived in Topeka, Kansas before moving to Gettysburg three years ago. he was unmarried and survived by two sisters and a brother. Funeral services were held Saturday at Gettysburg.
Earl H. Markley, director of vocational education in Hanover public schools, tendered his resignation to the board and will depart Monday for Hershey to head the industrial education department there. He has been with the Hanover schools for five years.
Gilbert Reen and George Miller of Petysburg have traveled to Ann Arbor Michigan to attend the University of Michigan summer school.
