Old Cashtown House Tumbles. New Ones Rise on Site
The Hamilton W. Silick Place, among Cashtown’s oldest homes, has been torn down. Robt Shell, owner, plans a new house with J OR Minter also building nearby. Postmaster ROD Bream added a store extension. The Lillick house, built in 1731 by William McClain, stood for nearly two centuries as western Adams County’s oldest residence and ties to local McClain descendants. its frontier construction echoed block house design with pinned clap boards and hand forged nails, a reminder of the 32 years later Jamison massacre nearby.
