Editor J Harvey Neely and Mr Le rew report on a Thursday trip from York. Many residents and visitors are listed with travel, work, medical, and family updates across Abbottstown York Springs and surrounding towns.
Henry I. Emlet sold 28 acres along Berlin road one mile north of town to Pius I. Long of Hanover on private terms. Possession set for August 1. Sumlet plans public sale of personal property and will live with his children. A 10 acre tract along Lincoln Highway and Carlisle road, about 140 miles west of town, was sold by C. C. and Reynolds D. Weaver on Saturday to Frank Hetrick for 1260.50 adjoining his land.
Chas E I Grove of New Baltimore after church services at St Paul's McSherrystown parked his car by the road. He spoke with the Feeser family when two fast moving cars approached. One driven by Jno Eckenhrode of Gettysburg struck Grove's car, wrecking both vehicles considerably.
Camp Colt plans an officers training school to prepare non commissioned men for second lieutenant roles in the Tank Corps. Many local youths and families report service overseas or training assignments including Cape May naval reserve duties and Camp Lee rejections for three drafted men.
Vloyd Wolf of Abbottstown a mounted police squad member at Camp Meade was knocked unconscious Thursday night after his horse shied at a rabbit. Initial skull fracture fears gave way to an X-ray showing no fracture. He improves at the hospital as parents and his uncle visit from Abbottstown.
Dr. Markley will convene Adams County threshermen to discuss repairs before this season. State Administrator Heinz notes last year losses due to unrepaired threshers could have fed 320000 people for a year. A factory hand may repair outfits. focus on blowing apparatus, preventing loss of grain. A meeting at Gettysburg Court House will be held Saturday June 22 at 1 30 PM.
A traveling Food Conservation Train from the Food Supply Department of the Committee of Public Safety will arrive in Gettysburg Friday June 21 after a stop in Hanover. Director Howard Steinz leads the mission with Roy L. French in charge of three cars staffed by State College experts. The train will be on the Western Maryland siding with public viewing from 2 to 5 30 PM and 7 to 8 30 PM, no morning hours.
Two children of I. Blumenthal of Hanover were injured when his car was struck by a junk dealer’s vehicle from York on the Littlestown pike. The boy driver of the other car, about 14, swerved and side swiped Blumenthal’s car, sending it into a tree and causing major damage. Lewis Blumenthal suffered a head cut and bruises. Benjamin Blumenthal had two teeth knocked out. The other vehicle’s occupants escaped injury.
The McSherrystown council votes to measure every street crossing to time autos passing through town. Residents have complained of speeding during the past weeks and the measure aims to curb it. question remains what New Oxford authorities will do.

Fohl sail from Gettysburg Saturday 5 55 AM for Pittsburgh to receive weeks of instruction before Army service at the University of Pittsburgh and the High School.
Adams County plans the largest number of public meetings in a single time on June 28 as National War Savings Day. At 8 p.m. two meetings will be held in each of seventy districts with district chairmen presiding and speakers sent to many venues. A June 21 convention in Gettysburg Academy will set full instructions for the week of meetings. Nearly $100,000 in stamps has already sold in the county.

The Sick notes George F E Sheffer of McSherrystown is able to move with canes after a period of illness. Amos Lehigh of Abbottstown is bedbound with old age infirmities. Janet Bender and Theresa Arnold of Men scherrystown are out again after two weeks confined by sickness. Mrs Amos Lough of West Sligh Street suffered a slight paralytic attack affecting her right side.
Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Gable Lincoln Way West welcomed a son. Dr. and Mrs. Walter Fortney Lit tlestown announced a son. Mr. and Mrs. James Smail West Wigh street had a daughter. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Crown Abbots town celebrated a son. Mr. and Mrs. Fr X Colgan Mesher rystown reported a son. Mr. and Mrs. William Butler near Conewagy sehvelhhouse welcomed a son.
Fire at the Samuel Smith residence in Littlestown on Monday morning damaged the summer kitchen after Mrs. Smith left to feed the chickens. Firefighters from Littlestown, aided by chemicals, controlled the blaze with an estimated loss around $200.
Adams county draft board summons fifty seven men to appear at Gettysburg on June 27. Forty eight will be sent to Camp Lee Virginia on the 4:38 pm train. After farm work considerations the Class I list will show thirty one names remaining. Norman Rudisill nine year old son of Mr and Mrs Albert Rudisill of Mt Pleasant township near White Hall was cut by a power mower while hunting eggs. The left foot suffered flesh ligament and bone damage and he was treated by Dr Lindaman before being moved to the West Side Sanatorium York for possible foot salvage.
Jesse Overlander of East Berlin drove off a steep embankment on the Berlin Hanover pike to avoid a collision with Gilbert Haverstock Jr of East Berlin. The overturned car carried Milo Stambaugh LaBott William Jacobs Thomasville and Frank Fissel East Berlin. Jacobs suffered a serious injury with a contused nose while others had cuts and bruises. Dr Elgin provided surgical aid.
William S. Neff of York was killed by a lightning bolt about 6:50 am Wednesday while crossing an open lot on his way to the Hench and Dromgold plant where he worked as a woodworker. He was 26, married to Heia and survived by his wife, parents Daniel and Mrs Neff, a daughter, and three sisters.
Geo D Sheely Graevo A Miller and W H Juumer directors for Camp 22 S of A order an 8 by 13 foot service flag with 75 stars to honor local service members from New Oxford to be unveiled with the national colors on July booth. Two hundred ninety one guests attended the Altlund House in Abbottstown for a chicken and walle dinner, a likely county record. Hoffnagle plants seven acres of soya beans in Mt Pleasant, with partner David Shultz seeding 18 more on Shultz farm at $9 per bushel for the crop.
