Curtis and Rebecca Miller of Hanover Street spend days in York while Curt Miller served at a state Red Men convention. Many locals visit relatives in Maryland Pennsylvania and New York with trips to Waldheim White Hall Philadelphia Baltimore and Irishtown.
Local religious services filled Hampton area pews with Childrens Day events and a sermon by Rev Sterhat, a seminarian. Many residents from Dover East Berlin and Hanover visit relatives, attend class day events, and host weekend gatherings. Durant Motors buys Willys plant in Elizabeth N J for 5525000, with community birthdays and sales notices included.
Local ice man Bill Herman visits Cu Tey Wolf's garage to fill gas and start his route. The truck stalls after 100 yards, Dr Mulligan Myers diagnoses the engine drinks too much water. Investigators find a bucket of water mixed with gas, blamed on the missing water as the cause.
The Bachelors' Club of York spent Thursday at Cafe Dicks with members listed including Dec Spotz and Mayor Hugentagler. Hamptonians John P. Myers Jake Eckert and Chas Rick joined. Doc Spotz sustained a leg injury from a baseball. Chicken supper followed the ball game and there were no departures.
The W M Ry summer timetable takes effect Sunday. Train 45 to Gettysboro Highfield and Jagerstown departs New Oxford at 5 45 pm weekdays instead of 5 28 pm. Train 44 to Baltimore and nearby stops leaves at 5 12 pm instead of 5 17 pm daily except Sunday. Train 161 Pen Mar Express, Sunday-only in summer, resumes June 25 at 9 15 am from New Oxford.
Mrs Martha Grove wife of Noah Grove of East Berlin was jailed in Adams county in default of bail after a hearing before Justice Chai Wolf East Berlin charged on oath with surety of the peace. It is alleged Mrs Grove threatened to injure P C Smith, and her son reported the threat.
Minnie Dicks, administrator, will sell Circle Cafe property at Center Square and Carlisle Street on July 1 in whole and in three parts including cafe building annex and garage. North Paters Street lots and Hampton area farm to be offered the same day and July 15 respectively.
Old-time square dance scheduled in Millhimes Grove between New Chester and Hunterstown on Saturday evening June 24 and again on July 4 with music promised. Also notes Gettysburg College honors for Amy and Eva Haar and other local graduates. Chamber of Commerce meeting postponed to next Tuesday due to church centennial events. business booster efforts urged. Local sales and vehicle changes reported including Bart Worley buying a Ford touring car.
Mrs. Frank Shrader and her mother Mrs. Eltz were thrown from a runabout near Conewago chapel when the horse Eddie bolted after passing Schmidt Bottling works. Both women suffered bruises, Eddie broke free and veered into a Conewago Gas Co truck. the buggy was wrecked and the horse was later captured.
Mroo and Mrs John Strausbaugh visited John Hersh at Wrightsville on Sunday. Bees forced a stop near Thomasville. Visits by Birliville and Abbotts town residents to Greenridge. The First Lutheran church of New Oxford marks its 100th anniversary with nightly services attended by large congregations. A historical sermon opened the observance led by Rev. W. M. Allison, with a schedule of speakers and events through Sunday June 18, including sermons by Rev. Robt. D. Clare and Rev. Chas. W. Baker Sr. and musical contributions from local choirs.
